Arsene Wenger has made his thoughts clear about the future of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after what was said by the player on Sunday.

The England international has rarely featured for Arsenal this season despite his impressive displays in pre-season which saw him score stunning goals against Lens and Chivas Guadalajara.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has also scored twice this term (against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest), revealed that he may soon consider leaving Arsenal for more playing time in an interview on Sky Sports.

However, Wenger has stepped in to calm down the uncertainty surrounding the 23-year-old’s future by suggesting that he is still part of his plans.

“He didn’t say that [he wanted to be sold],” Wenger said. “He said he will consider the situation at the end of the season. That is completely different.

“I can understand, but on the other hand, you buy a young player at 17 years of age, you spend a lot of money, then you would like him to stay at the club.

“I think his place is here. We like him. I personally rate him as a player and I hope that he will show that he can have a stable position in the team until the end of the season.

“This season he has been similar to Walcott. He has not got rewarded yet. But he is in a similar position because he has worked really hard.”
