Highly-rated star declares he will reject big offer for Arsenal
Arsenal have received a boost from one of the club’s most prized assets at the moment ahead of the next transfer window.
The Gunners said goodbye to four players for good during the summer as Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Serge Gnabry completed their permanent departures.
It was one of the rare occasions Arsene Wenger has managed to resist the opportunity of selling a key member of his starting eleven after the high profile exits of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie, Alexandre Song and Bacary Sagna in recent years.
One current Gunner who has continued to be linked with a move elsewhere is Hector Bellerin, a player now recognized as one of the brightest prospects in Europe after breaking into the first team two seasons ago.
However, unlike former Arsenal captain Fabregas, Bellerin insists he is not attracted to the idea of moving back to Barcelona where he began his career.
“If Barcelona contact me right now? I won’t pick up the phone,” the right-back responded in an interview with DW Channel
There have been rumours suggesting Bellerin will be offered a lucrative new contract but Wenger insists the 21-year-old will remain committed to Arsenal regardless of what he is offered.
“He has nearly three years to go, we always try to get the players to the financial level where we think they deserve to be,” the Arsenal boss said as reported by Metro.
“We will try to extend his contract, his long-term future is here. He has been absolutely fantastic. His first game was a nightmare. The season before he was at Watford where he didn’t play.”
