Wenger: Player I will start tomorrow
Arsene Wenger is weighing his options over who will start at right-back for Arsenal in the clash with Manchester United.
The Arsenal manager confirmed on Thursday that Hector Bellerin would spend a while on the sidelines following an ankle injury he suffered in the dying minutes of the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur two weeks ago.
Bellerin’s absence means a new player will start at right-back for Arsenal in a Premier League game for the first time this season.
With Mathieu Debuchy fresh from an injury lay-off, Wenger has admitted Carl Jenkinson is the most likely to play tomorrow.
“Hector is Hector,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “He has strong points and is a very strong player. Our team likes to go forward so we’ll try to keep these attacking options open.
“The options are basically Jenkinson – because Debuchy will play his first game back on Friday with the under-23s – and also Gabriel because he played a few times at left back for Villarreal.”
Whoever Wenger picks to feature on the right flank at Old Trafford will be charged with the task of dealing with either Jesse Lingard or Anthony Martial as Jose Mourinho looks to overcome the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
