Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on a player whose leadership skills is undoubted in the current Arsenal squad.

The Gunners are still in the hunt for their first Premier League title since the triumph of the ‘Invincibles’ back in 2004.

The Arsenal team from that particular era was loaded with several players who were capable of facing up to physical opponents and picking themselves up if the going got tough.

Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 loss at Everton which saw Ronald Koeman’s men use aggressive tactics to defeat Arsene Wenger’s side, the age-old question about whether Arsenal have enough strong characters to win the league has been raised again.

However, one man who certainly gives Wenger hope in that regard is the often energetic and hardworking Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean superstar is usually the first man to urge his teammates to press the opposition and that has not gone unnoticed by his manager.

“He is comparable to Suarez a bit in style” Wenger said  “Thierry Henry was a real athlete – naturally you saw this guy was a strong man. Sanchez surprises you a little bit because of his size.

“You do not expect such a dynamic, strong winning attitude. That is his game.

“He is a leader in his way on the football pitch – because he is not scared of anybody. That is a kind of leadership.”
