Wenger speaks on starting Danny Welbeck against Liverpool
Arsene Wenger has spoken on Danny Welbeck’s chances of being handed a rare start in the Premier League clash against Liverpool.
The Gunners are set for an important trip to Anfield this weekend as they look to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea who are now 13 points clear.
Arsenal’s attack has not been at its best in recent weeks with Alexis Sanchez being heavily relied upon for goals in the last Premier League outing against Hull City.
As a result, there have been calls for Danny Welbeck to be handed a start against Jurgen Klopp’s struggling side on Saturday.
The England international managed to see out the entire 90 minutes of a game for the first time last Friday as the club’s Under-23 team thrashed Chelsea 4-1.
Thus, Wenger insists Welbeck is now ‘in contention’ for a place in the starting eleven which faces Liverpool.
“He’s in contention.” Wenger said at his press-conference on Thursday morning
“Yes [we’ve been careful] because he had ups and downs with his response to his knee problem. I followed the advice of our medical staff.”
