Wenger – I wanted to sign this Man United star
Arsene Wenger has picked out the Manchester United player whom he ‘regrets’ not to have signed for Arsenal.
The Arsenal manager has been known for not being afraid to reveal which footballers he missed out on signing before their rise to stardom.
And it appears that Michael Carrick is certainly on the list of players Wenger would have welcomed at Arsenal had the opportunity came.
The English midfielder is set for a testimonial match for United after spending more than a decade at Old Trafford.
And according to the Gunners boss, Carrick, who left Tottenham in 2006, is a player he would have loved to manage.
“I give Michael my deepest congratulations for his testimonial,” Wenger told the club’s official website
“I think he deserves it hugely.
“I would say personally I’m an admirer of his career, of his quality. One of my regrets is never having had him as a player because I think he was one of the greatest players in English football.
“I believe as well that he did not always get the reward and the tribute, the recognition he deserved.
“But I’m an admirer of Michael and I wish him all the best for the future.”
