Former Gunner Martin Keown is expecting Arsene Wenger to work on keeping one of his stranded first team stars at the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal are heading into next season with a host of players having just one year left on their contracts.

One of them is Jack Wilshire who is yet to renew his deal following an encouraging loan spell at Bournemouth.

However, Keown insists the 25-year-old’s immense potential means Wenger will ‘certainly’ offer him a new contract at the club nonetheless.

“We know Jack is a special talent. His injuries have marred his career.” Keown said

“It must be tough for Arsene Wenger to watch. How many times has he broken ankles and had operations?

“His quality isn’t in doubt, it’s his health that’s the issue.

“There are some big decisions to be made but I would feel he is someone Wenger would try to keep. Somebody that he will try to support.”

“They certainly will offer him a new contract.”
