Shearer sends harsh message to Arsenal fans despite £46.5m signing
Alan Shearer has continued to play down Arsenal’s chances of winning big honours this season despite the addition of a new goalscorer.
The Gunners kicked off their Premier League campaign with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Leicester City on Friday after scoring two late goals to turn around the result.
Arsenal’s clash with the Foxes saw new signing Alexandre Lacazette make his debut in the English top flight and he only took a few seconds to score his first goal in the competition.
The Frenchman’s goal-scoring display on Friday came after an encouraging performance against Chelsea in the Community Shield last Sunday.
However, BBC pundit Alan Shearer insists the signing of prolific striker, who was purchased for £46.5m, will not be enough to see Arsenal challenge for the title.
“I liked the look of Alexandre Lacazette’s link-up play in the Community Shield and he adds something different to the Gunners’ attack but, at the moment, it does not seem that much else about Arsenal has changed.” he said
“Even if they keep all three of those players for this season, I still don’t see them having enough to challenge for the title.”
