Arsenal’s forward scooped the prize – which recognizes Russia and all CIS countries’ best footballer every month – for the third time this year after being rewarded back in March and April this year.

The recognition added to what had been a fruitful August for Arshavin after his first European goal for Arsenal against Celtic and memorable strike at Old Trafford.

But he did end the month on a bit of a sore note after limping off later in the fixture against Manchester United.

And after receiving his accolade on Friday, Arshavin expressed his delight but could not hide the pain of the groin injury he is currently suffering.

“This August is memorable with the game against Argentina (Russia lost 3-2), and also with my first goal in the Champions League against Celtic.” he told Sport Express

“Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the match with Manchester United where I also scored but did not have pleasure in the end since we lost and I got injured.”

“Moreover this injury is of the kind that could not be treated actively. I can only wait and wait and pursue are worst of possible occupations.”

“I have done nothing for the first two days but now I am carrying out the prescription of the doctors and started to train in the gym.”

“At first the doctors thought about shots but than give it up. The injured muscle (groin) is quite deep and it is difficult to treat it. By the way this muscle is rarely injured but for me, it is always different.”

“It is hard to go through what I have mentioned. And it is also very unusual for me to be in the (Russian) team with the only thing I can fully participate in being lunches and dinners.”

“Then everybody goes to the training session and I stay in the hotel. Did I come here for this? No. But unfortunately nothing can be done.”

Arshavin did sit out Russia’s 3-0 victory over Liechtenstein in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier but hinted earlier this week that he may be available for his country’s visit to Wales.
