The 22-year-old suffered a severe ankle injury back in July after an unfortunate collision with a teammate during Arsenal’s pre-season training in Austria.

As a result, Nasri was ruled out for two months at least and despite hopes for an early return in September, Wenger stressed it was advisable that the French midfielder took another month to recover.

Almost mid-way through October now, the boss revealed last week that: “Nasri should be back in training before the end of the international break.”

Thus, last season’s fourth top scorer is expected to resume training this week and Nasri is already preparing to make his first appearance of the season when Arsenal visit West Ham later this month.

“I’m due to rejoin the Arsenal team this weekend, or at the start of next week” he said.

“I think I will be back in action against West Ham on the 25th. The new style of play suits us. Cesc Fabregas has a bit more freedom in midfield, and the rest of us link up well with him.”
