Arsenal suffered their first defeat of this summer’s pre-season tour on Saturday as Chelsea won 3-0.
Arsene Wenger’s men were facing Antonio Conte’s side for the first time since the FA Cup final victory at Wembley in May.
And the affair at the Bird’s Nest stadium saw the Gunners boss name a line-up with a mixture of youth and experience as the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cohen Bramall started.
The first half was a relatively open contest but on the stroke of halftime, Chelsea took full control with quick-fire goals.
First, Willian put the blues ahead in the 40th minute and only two minutes later, Michy Batshuayi added a second for Conte’s men.
Wenger made major changes to the team at the beginning of the second half with more senior players being introduced as Laurent Koscielny, Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Mohammed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac all came on.
However, only four minutes after the restart, Batshuayi added his second as Chelsea secured an emphatic win in the friendly.
Today’s loss to Chelsea ended a run of 12 unbeaten pre-season games for Arsenal. The last defeat was against Monaco in August 2014.
