Arsene Wenger is on the verge of sealing another transfer deal for a new centre-back according to reports from the British media over the weekend.
The Gunners secured the acquisition of promising Greek defender Mavropanos after the 2-2 draw against Chelsea last week.
And it now appears as though Wenger is working on what would be his second deal of the winter transfer window.
The Sun are reporting that Arsenal are hoping to wrap up the signing of Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion this month.
Manchester City were previously deemed as the favourites to land the services of the 30-year-old defender.
However, the Gunners appear to be winning the battle for Evans who spent much of his Premier League career as a Manchester United player.
New West Brom boss Alan Pardew is seemingly open to selling the veteran centre-back and Arsenal are reportedly close to reaching an agreement over a fee in the region of £25million for the Northern Ireland star.
