Predictions that Arsenal would be drawn against AC Milan have come true.

The Gunners will be facing the Italian champions in the last 16 of the competition after been handed a mouth-watering but uneasy tie in Nyon today.

Arsenal, who won their group against tricky teams, will countinue their Champions League adventure the hard way after already having to face another tough Italian opposition in Udinese earlier this season in order to qualify for the tournament.

Milan possess big threats in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kevin Prince Boateng, Alexandre Pato and Robinho but Arsenal themselves have a good record against Italians teams in Europe.

Indeed the last time the Gunners played the Rosseneri was during the 2007/08 campaign when goals Fabregas and Adebayor stunned the San Siro – becoming the first English team to win there – in a 2-0 aggregate victory at this same stage of the competition that year.

Both teams were knocked out the round of 16 last season to Tottenham and Barcelona respectively and will look to go a step further this time.

Milan will host Arsenal in the first leg of the tie before a trip to the Emirates in return.

With the magnitude of the opposition, Wenger’s men will definitely not be short of motivation going into a tie which may even force the Frenchman to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.
