The Gunners are claimed to have made one of their first attempts to improve their defensive unit this summer, as Unai Emery begins his plans for next year.

The Arsenal boss did not inherit too many options – if any – in terms of world class defenders after being named as the man to manage the team following the departure of Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners’ inability to keep a clean sheet very often away from home saw them fail to finish in the top four of the Premier League for a third straight season.

But according to a report by CalcioMercato, the club has moved to rectify that problem by making an offer to sign Argentina international Walter Kannemann.

The 28-year-old is a player with a high amount of experience and he is being pursued at a time when the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny have failed to keep a regular place in the starting eleven.

The report is claiming that Arsenal have made an offer of £10.5m to sign Kannemann who has been a member of the Argentina national squad in recent times.
