Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has revealed a move he almost made before joining the Gunners.
The Englishman is regarded as a legend at the club with Thierry Henry being the only player to score more goals in an Arsenal shirt.
However, Wright has revealed that his move to north London might have failed to happen if Chelsea had responded to his petition for a move.
“Being a professional footballer was a million miles away from my thinking,” he said.
“With all the rejection during my teenage and adolescent years, I thought it was something that passed me by.
“I didn’t get an answer from Chelsea. I should have kept these letters.
“I got answers from West Ham, answers from Arsenal, Palace.
“It just so happened, whether it’s luck or whether at the time I wasn’t good enough or I was too small.
“I don’t know what it was but I just never got scouted.”
