Arsenal have made a bold new attempt to reach an agreement with key star Alexis Sanchez over extending his contract at the club.
The South American forward finished last season as the team’s top scorer after managing to score 30 goals in all competitions, including the opener in the 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea in May.
However, with only a year remaining on the contract of Sanchez, constant speculation has continued to link him with a departure before the summer transfer window closes.
Thus, Arsenal have now offered the 28-year-old a lucrative new offer to convince him to stay at the club, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
Sanchez is believed to have turned down an initial £225,000 deal (rising to £275,000-a-week with bonuses) which who would have made him the highest-paid player at the Emirates stadium.
But the Gunners have now gone a step further by reportedly offering the Chilean a club-record £300,000-a-week pay rise to renew his contract.
The former Barcelona man will have to make a decision over his Arsenal future sooner or later as clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City remain in pursuit of his services.
Sanchez, who is currently sidelined by an abdominal injury, is expected to miss Arsenal’s first couple of fixtures of the new season.
