Arsene Wenger has reportedly encountered a new opportunity to offload one of his out-of-favour stars in the Arsenal first team.
The Gunners manager is preparing his side for their second game of the Premier League season this weekend, a tricky trip to Stoke City.
However, with only a few weeks remaining in the transfer window, speculation has continued to link Wenger with a host of moves to rearrange his squad.
According to L’Equipe, Olympique Marseille have emerged as the favourites to sign Mathieu Debuchy after expressing an interest in the right-back.
The Frenchman moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2014 for £12 million, as a replacement for Bacary Sagna who had decided to join Manchester City on a free transfer.
However, frequent injuries and the emergence of Hector Bellerin has limited Debuchy’s playing time significantly, and he has been controversially pushing for an exit for two years now.
The new report is suggesting that Marseille could even secure the services of the 32-year-old without paying a transfer fee with only a year remaining on his contract at Arsenal.
