Arsenal now favourites to sign 23-year-old defender
The Gunners are now deemed as one of the favourites to secure the services of one of Europe’s best young full-backs.
Unai Emery was able to sign several defenders ahead of his first campaign at the club after replacing Arsene Wenger almost a year ago.
With Nacho Monreal not getting any younger, the new Arsenal boss is bound to begin a search for another full-back in the summer.
As a result, Alex Grimaldo as been identified as a player whom the Gunners are now pursuing in transfer market.
According to Portuguese source Sport.es, the Gunners are the favourites – along with Manchester City – to sign the 23-year-old star.
Grimaldo has been in superb this season for Benfica, who are still in the hunt for the Europa League title.
Should the Spanish defender move to the Emirates stadium, he would certainly provide real competition for Sead Kolasinac, who is currently the first choice at left-back.
