Arsene Wenger has reportedly opened talks over the signing of another central midfielder according to reports.
The Arsenal manager added the likes of Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka to his squad in 2016.
However, the duo, along with Francis Coquelin were not enough to lead the Gunners towards a successful challenge for the Premier League title last term and Wenger appears to be eying new options.
According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Arsenal have opened talks to sign William Carvalho.
The Portugal international has been linked with a move to the Emirates stadium over the past two years.
And after watching his side struggle in the defensive midfield department despite the addition of Xhaka, Wenger is apparently pursuing the services of Carvalho.
The 25-year-old has a £37 million (€41.2 million) release clause in his current contract, but an offer higher than £29 million could force Sporting Lisbon into negotiating a deal.
