The Gunners have confirmed that there will be a new shirt number for one of last season’s stand-out performers after the agreement of a new deal yesterday.
The club said goodbye to Arsene Wenger at the start of last month and only a couple of weeks after the Frenchman’s departure, Unai Emery was announced as the man to take charge of the team.
Arsenal’s new boss is expected to complete a number of deals this summer as he prepares his team for another season without Champions League football.
On Tuesday the club confirmed – as we reported – that Ainsley Maitland-Niles had agreed to put pen to paper on a new contract at the club.
And following that announcement, the club also went on to make an official confirmation of the defender’s new shirt number for next season.
Maitland-Niles – who has been pocketing £30,000-a-week wages – will now be wearing the number which was last occupied by former Gunner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
