Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi has picked out the man whom he believes was a vital part of why the Gunners succumbed to a defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s men traveled to the Etihad stadium, well aware that any negative result would severely damage their hopes of fighting for the Premier League title this season.

And even though Arsenal went into the halftime break only a goal behind, a controversial penalty-kick which was awarded to the home side before a clearly offside goal scored by Gabriel Jesus ultimately decided the result.

Thus, Alex Iwobi, who was handed a surprise start ahead of Alexandre Lacazette on the day, has directed some of the blame at the match official.

“We were pushing to get the equaliser but unfortunately the referee wasn’t able to see that it was offside,” he said.

“There’s nothing that you can do, we just have to move on to the next game.

“Maybe we weren’t composing ourselves like we were in the first 10 or 15 minutes. Man City are a very good team and you have to give credit to them, but I believe the result doesn’t show how well we did.”
