Neil Ashton has urged Arsenal to secure the signing of Chelsea legend John Terry on a free transfer this summer.

The 36-year-old has said goodbye to the Blues after nearly two decades of football at Stamford Bridge which saw him win just about every major honour.

Terry will now be a free agent if he does not choose to retire from the game and a host of clubs from the second division have expressed an interest in his services.

However, Sky Sports journalist Neil Ashton has called on the Gunners to join the race for the England international due to the wealth of experience he would bring to the Emirates stadium.

“Arsene Wenger should mark his re-appointment as Arsenal boss by signing John Terry on a free.” Ashton said

“Although Terry’s best years are behind him, his wealth of experience at the highest level would raise the standards in Arsenal’s nervy defence.

“He does not have to play every week but his presence around the training ground and in the dressing room would raise the level of Gabriel, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding.”
