Arsenal’s forgotten defender could make return
Johan Djourou may soon make his 2009/10 debut.
The Swiss defender is yet to feature for Arsenal this season due to a severe injury he suffered on international duty days before the Gunners’ season opener against Everton in August.
At the time, Arsene Wenger estimated Djourou’s lay-off to be about six to eight months with the likelihood of the defender not playing any part in this campaign.
But the 23-year-old’s recovery has gone on course and he could make a vital contribution to Arsenal’s run-in this year.
In an interview on March 2, Djourou claimed he would need “six weeks” to return and late April now appears to be a likely date.
His comeback will be much welcomed by an Arsenal side which is left with veterans Mikael Silvestre and Sol Campbell as main options to partner the ever-present Thomas Vermaelen in defense.
And with the future of the injured William Gallas still uncertain, the promising 6ft 4in tall Swiss man – who made a big step up last term – could capitalize on a first team chance.
“Johan Djourou had a difficult problem with the cartilage in his knee joint. He has made virtually a full recovery and we expect him to train fully with the squad within the next fortnight, as will Kieran Gibbs.” Physio Colin Lewin said.
“They have both made full recoveries from what could have been career-threatening injuries.”

wow thats a very very big boost 4 us..
Djorous shit.
Oh sure he is.
I bet at this time last year you were saying the same about Diaby.
I for one was a big admirer of Diaby ever since he made his breakthrough in 2007/08 (remember his goal against Derby?) and I saw him as a promising boy (I used to search youtube compilations about him) while several of you went on about how shit he was. Now that it is obvious, everyone has jumped on the wagon of Diaby being good (forget the Barca game).
I will tell you today that what I feel about Djourou is the same I felt about Diaby a couple of years ago.
Call him shit, but I think he is one hell of a talented player who may one day be amongst the world’s best.
Mark it down right now, I said it today: April 8, 2010.
Johan Djourou will be a great centre-back.
Well i hope your right.
I never really saw this guy play, but i hope you’re right.
And besides he’s not a Caucasian. Most Non-Caucasian defenders we have here always turn out to be good defenders.
he is crap like senderos watch djourou he might give up a other own goal like last time when he played i think it was last year
he is crap like senderos watch djourou he might give up a other own goal like last time when he played i think i
Your last words epitomized your stupidity.
The last time he played was NOT at Cheslea where he went on to look solid despite giving away that unwitting own-goal.
Djourou and Senderos are very different. Djourou has the defensive pace and form of a Gallas and the height/size of a Materrazi.
While Senderos has the form of a Campbell – sort of clumsy with the touch by nature (even though the difference in quality between the two is very, very large).
There is a reason why I wouldn’t have minded Djourou playing ahead of Gallas this season had he been fit. Taller, younger and more physical version of William.
nxt season dj and tv to start at cb he was gud last season
yes i think u are ryt pal…wenger does not sign shit…
Think Djourou could really step up next season If Gallas leaves us, and a tall cb next to Tommy could be a great combo!!
watch when he plays he will be shit watch against sour or mancity if he plays watch
i really dont ind djourou….he will be a top class defender, and why not give him the opportunity to prove himself…
GO ARSENAL
mind
Good news! Whoever said anything negative about, DJ gets a boot in the arse! lol
Djourou when he was playing for reserve was being courted by every top club in europe but we were able to hold onto him and were finally able to make him sign a new 6 year contract seond biggest after Fabregas.
That shows how highly wenger rates him and his impressive form meant Sendros had to go on loan just to get some playing time.
JOhan is so good on the ball that he can play anywhere on the park even as a striker. He’s a good tackler, agrresive, tall, well built but he does need to improve his positioning and he will do that in years to come.
He is by no ways a finished products but who in our young team really is ?
I have always said but a tall strong dfender with Vermaelen and you get one of the best CB patnership on the planet.
There are rumours that Roma have offered gallas a 3 year deal and he is set to leave us in the summer
We all know wenger wants 5 CBs each year – Djourou, Vermaelen, Sol, Stefan Savic (19yr old for around 1-2 million) and ?
This missing person can be Boateng, Bonnuci, Servet Setin or even Angelo Ogbonna.
It wont be Hangeland or Subotic since they have just signed new long term contracts.
Jason posts the same post on every other blog. Zzzzzzzz…
Why rush him back? With only the prem left we should be able to play Sol the rest of the games. Get him in some reserve games and let him get ready for the WC and next season. It would be foolish right now to rush him, RVP and Gibbs back.
This team that is playing now has gotten the job done (most part). Let them finish and move forward without any major injuries.
randy whats the news on rvp
Reports say he might make a surprise show against Spurscum! I doubt it but if he is ready then he is ready!
thabks, its like getting back our cutting edge .
Steve Bruce wanted to sign him on a permanent basis while on loan with Birmingham City. He is obviously a better bet if I have to choose between Silvestre and Djourou. Djourou is young, strong, good height and better pace than Silvestre. His return will give Wenger more options at the back. A welcome news to me.
GUESS WHAT???/: RVP IS BACK FOR THE SPUDS!!!!!!!!
Not really.
It’s just some conniving writer starting up something at the Daily Mail and everyone else is following it.
I do wish he would play on Wednesday, but he won’t.
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
Alright, were still in it. Need Chelski to botch the game and our boys need to show up on Wednesday.
Come on you Gunners-
