Arshavin on dissapointing performance at Fulham
Andrey Arshavin admits he was not at his very best yesterday.
The talented Russian had arguably his first quiet game since joining in February but his teammates coped well to see out a tough 1-0 victory at Fulham.
Arshavin admitted in an interview during the summer that the 0-0 home draw against Fulham during his early days as an Arsenal player was the toughest match he played in last season.
Back from an injury lay-off yesterday, Arshavin struggled to prove things right to Fulham this time around and as a result, was replaced by Rosicky after 68 minutes.
Fulham’s right-back John Pantsil was a tough nut to crack for Arshavin but it was clear a lack of sharpness and certainly not his undoubted ability is what let the Russian down at Craven Cottage.
“I’m not mistaken. The game was not given to us is easily. I am pleased that we managed to win. Especially, I would like to mention the goal/assist combination. It was good.” Arshavin said.
“Could I have scored? In some occasions I seemed to be doing everything right, but was slow to reach the ball. At that point I had only one desire – to reach out to the ball faster than the defender. I had time, but often fell under the ball, and saw the chance gone.”
After Saturday’s disappointment, Arshavin is definitely not short of motivation ahead of the midweek clash with Olympiakos, and the Russian is now up for Tuesday night.
“There is no reason to discuss this though. Above all, Arsenal won. And I will come in a better mood ahead of the Champions League match.” he said.
Thank God!
You remain our russian bomber,no big deal at fulham,we all know your potential, keep on gunning 4 us,gunners4life
would you please please please stop using the word “sharpness” ?
🙂
Would you please please please stop being ignorant and find what the word means? 🙂
arshavin u d best we hv 4get aba d fulham game n keep on giving us ur best boi.
I think he did not have a bad game. He was just unlucky. His positioning was great yesterday. He could have scored at least 2 goals if Bendy was not too selfish.
Once fully fit he will be firing again. Dont worry
In my last comment I dared to be critical of Arsenal, not negative just critical. My rating for that comment was worse than Diaby`s so in order to put things right I`ll tell a few lies.
Arsenal you were brilliant at Fulham as we would expect. It is hard to choose the MOTM between Clichy, Diaby and the referee so we`ll give it to the goalkeeper (and that`s no lie) viva la Arsenal.
Ilike ashanvi but combination of ashanvi and diaby it will never sweet becous that diaby is very lazy like women, not quiet passing and alot of rubbiss,a very useless player never be inprove in his life carrier.
Lazy like women?! Your mama must feel real bad for giving birth to a loaf bread like you! Have some respect. Arshavin will bang a few in Champions league.
Arshavin will bounce back in style.
imagine arshavin joining RvP and Walcott in attack, and cesc together with rosicky pulling the strings in midfield. We would be tough to beat.
We still have eduardo, bendtner, vela, nasri and eboue to call upon. I really feel that arsenal is very talented and definitely talent well-stocked. It is true that we do not need to buy more players offensively. We still have merida, lansbury, ramsey traore and wilshere.
Defensively, I think we are fine as well, as we have gibbs and traore as well as botelho whom will be able to play for us next season. We have hoyte, gilbert and eboue as standby for sagna. In centre defense we have gallas, vermaelen, DJ and Senderos. We can play silvestre (if needed, though i do not want to see him play ever again), and Song (he is best to remain as our DM). We can call upon hoyte, ayling and bartley from the reserves as well.
In the GK department, Almunia is an average keeper. He seems to take things for granted sometimes. He cannot even stop the goals that other could have easily done it. If it was him at Fulham, we would have lost. Those headers would have gone in easily.
Hopefully the impressive performance by Szczesny and Mannone would serve to almunia as a wake up call. Mannone was relatively impressive in the fulham game. Hope fully he can repeat his performance this coming game against olympiacos. Then hopefully wenger would replace almunia with mannone. That way we would have our very own buffon or casillas whom will stay with arsenal for many years to come and we would not be worried about buying anymore keepers in the next decade or so. Fabianski is a good deputy as well, and its really sorry for him to lose his chance to impress to mannone now that almunia is out.
Lastly, the only department that i am worried. Defensive mid. Song is capable, but is he really able to hold his own against the big players like lampard and gerrard. In the man utd game he did ok, because man utd does not have a midfield general, definitely not fletcher that piece of shit.
I still find our game being more fluent and quick and defensively stronger when denilson is playing. I think song plays better alongside another defensive player like denilson. That frees fabregas even more, and he is able to work his magic like when he did against everton, celtic and portsmouth.
When denilson is out, song’s game seems to have dropped when played alongside the useless diaby. In fact our attack seems to go much slower whenever diaby is playing. He holds the ball for too long and seems to want to take on too many defenders at one time. He is a liability to arsenal. I cant seem to see what he is doing that warrants him a starting role in each and every game. He cant pass, can dribble, holds the ball for too long, cannot release players, cannot assist, like to take on defenders, lose the ball to easily, injures himself easily, lack of concentration and scores OWN GOALS!!!!
Seriously i hope denilson comes back sooner! I really miss his presence. He with song is the answer!! Hopefully nasri can come back soon as well, he is another player capable of shielding the back 4 together with song. He can be our own andrea pirlo, capable of attacking and defending. We can also call on Emmanuel frimpong and francis coquelin from the reserves if need be.
But we must get rid of abou diaby. Everytime he gets the ball, my heart stops. Everytime i see him starts a game, my mood is gone. I dont want to see him play ever again. Hopefully arsenal do renew his contract and let him leave even if its for free. This guy needs to leave!!!!!
I will never forget how he single handedly handed 3 points to Man Utd when he score that marvellous OWN GOAL when he is under ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!
well said Damn Gallas, totally agreed, Diaby is complete shit! just back from injuries and playing mad football, can’t forgive him of that OWN GOAL either, what’s he thinking ? scoring? Ces and Clichy look bit tired bit burnt out the last few match maybe they should have rest a match to revitalize, then they will be back to their best, Arshavin will be match fit very soon if not next, the genius at Euro 2008 will be back very soon! also can’t wait for Nasri return! GO GUNNERS!
My fellow gooners, how will u feel, lifting d trophy right in front of adebayor in one of d last three fixtures of d season. I WANNA SEE ROSICKY START ALONGSIDE ARSHAVIN

arshavin is most talented player, but against fulham there is
some disappointed i aprciation for goolkeper mannone
not a diaby fan here, either. the own goal was just one of those flukes, you can’t hate him for that.
hate for more legit stuff: like he still holds the ball too long. his passing is very inconsistent. and he is caught out of position way too much.
we should have run the midfield against fulham but did not. diaby is always in the wrong place it seems. he can go forward yes. but when he goes back … when does he? except to go studs in on someone. i can’t believe i’m saying this – but i miss denilson!
damngallas, i didn’t read your post until just now.

couldn’t agree more. cheers!
AA was horrible…and to be honest in my opinion he has been the least productive player in this campaign.
I don’t know If I said it already but …Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks, 🙂
A definite great read..Jim Bean
