Arshavin effort to go unpunished by manager

Arsene Wenger is willing to hand Andrey Arshavin another start in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie with Manchester City, only days after the Russian’s discouraging show against Fulham.
Despite being presented a rare chance in the Premier League on Saturday, Arshavin – who was spotted at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals along with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Robert Pires and Cristiano Ronaldo on Sunday – failed to gracefully accept Wenger’s call, putting in a performance which saw him substituted as Arsenal searched for a winner.
The tough midweek win over Dortmund seemed to have cost the Gunners some energy in Saturday’s draw but Arshavin, rested on Wednesday night anyway, looked as lethargic as his fatigued teammates.
Arsene Wenger though, is still backing the 30-year-old despite his declining reputation and the Frenchman has argued that Arshavin needs more games to impress – hinting that the midfielder who scored in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Bolton in the last round of the Carling Cup is likely to play in the competition’s quarter-final clash with Man. City.
“That (poor performance) is normal for a big player who has not played regularly” Wenger said
“I actually don’t think he (Arshavin) had a bad game. He suffered from the fact that we didn’t have our usual flow, but the full confidence will come with a number of games”
But somewhat contradicting his support for the dull Arshavin, Wenger praised the performances of late substitutes Abou Diaby and Marouane Chamakh – who also had been starved of action.
“They (Diaby and Chamakh) were fresh and hungry. Hopefully in the coming weeks they will show that.” Wenger added.
Likely to compete with Arshavin for a place on Tuesday are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has already bagged two goals for the club and Gervinho who was rested on Saturday. Yossi Benayoun and Park Chu-Young will also be vying for a scarce chance.
It will better if manager can use first eleven to face man city
Alex If only u cn c d future u ll have evry rxn 2 blv our frst eleven need rest
Was that English? I have no idea what you just said.
Wenger sees Arshavin every day in training and on the pitch and he is sure knows better than all these internet “experts”. Substituted without a standing ovation – yeah, what a crime. Wenger is absolutely right – Arshavin is not match fit, he needs a run of games.
He’s not been match fit for two years in that case.
The man is a lazy player, plain and simple. He should emulate Theo’s effort on the opposite wing. Notice how Theo always covers the fullback, he attacks the end line getting behind defenders (something Arshavin USED to do), wins tackles and never stops. Arshavin is content to try a flick or back heel here and there and watch the play going on around him. I was excited when we bought him, can’t wait to see him go and Ox get a chance.
if u believe that he can perform, try him for the first 11
Well I must admit I was expecting this as Fulham have a reasonably organised side who can defend in depth and counter effectively, and they showed the limitations of our side with regard to creativity and the lack of class of our midfielders who really have not looked or shown that they are good enough to be contenders for the top four.
Arteta does not have any creativity in him and just passes sideways and backwards, and has suprised me how slow he is in thinking.
Ramsey works hard but he again does not have that extra bit of class and again yesterday he missed a vital goal chance.
Gervino is not top quality only just average, he had no idea yesterday against average players and he has shown so many times already schoolboy standard errors in fromt of goal, the worst in my opinion was the error when he tried a stupid flick in front of an open goal last week at a vital moment….thankfully Robin was behind him to score ….but it could have been very costly.
Song has been playing better than he has before which has made a big difference, but he is still susceptable to costly errors, but a) can he maintain the form & b) we lose him to the ANCup….what happens then? Personally I would not even consider acquiring players who had to play in this comp mid season, purely on bias towards our Club requirements, we cannot afford to lose any player of quality at that stage of the season!
Walcott is still a one trick pony, his effectiveness is still limited as is his quality!
Arshavin was played, I hope, with the goal of putting him in the shop window before the transfer widow in Jnuary opens up
This together with “horror of horrors”…..Diaby appearing in an Arsenal shirt once again, I was hoping I would never see it happen as I honestly believe that he is not the quality we need…..again I hope that his appearance was solely to put him up there for view before selling him off in January. Along With the hapless Chamakh and Squillachi.
We all know that we are desperate for a quality backup to Robin vp…… AW needs to bring in someone of real quality, if he doesn’t then we will be hanging on the knife edge of Robing either getting injured or losing form!
We desperately need quality midfielders to be brought in to be there when Jack Wilshire comes back, then our season can really start….. but I suspect Wenger will stick with what he has got and our season will end in misery!!
@Can u talk like an arsenal optimist for once? You are just seeing negatives.
@Kevin. i meant commenting
Tomorrow is the judgment day and all of us will go te hell.
We just managed to go to the next round of the CL, taking the lead of our group already before playing the last game …
@kevin, song isn’t goin 2 d nations cup in january. We all knw we nid back up 4 robin but please stop being so negative. Are u an Arsenal fan?
@kevin,
so basically rthe whole arsenal team is not good enough. Well then, why dont we sell the whole team, and sign you to play for Arsenal then shall we.
On a more serious note, I think Chamberlain, Gervinho or Yossi should have started instead of Ramsey. Ramsey has been poor for me this season so far, and yet he seems to be guaranteed a starting place. Arshavin was trying, but the whole team was lethargic and slow.
Cameroon didnt qualify for the ACN. So song will not be leaving.
Gervinho has been or most productive winger.
With regards to how our season may end……there is a long way to go.
Get a grip and right a factual peice for once.
No, Theo has been by a mile.
As arsenal fan, i am not happy with this report above. I want Mr wenger to start up with the first team. The team played against Borussia Doturmond last week, must start game agains Man city on tuesday night because i (we) need victory. Arshavin, benayoun Diaby and so on, must be the subtuties, please wenger find a victory for arsenal fans, i beg you…
Yes we all want to win but have you forgotten the first team is not made of machines and engines and they actually get tired too?
Why so much negativity? We’ve seen championship side teams beat EPL teams in this comp. Arsenal def can beat Man Shity! Don’t be surprised if we go on and beat Shity tomorrow.
Go Arsenal!
Sup, Randy? Long time. Cheers!
Hey Loft, real glad to see you here again..ha ha ..so , what’s cooking ?
The Gunners will wipe the smile off Man Shitty’s face.
Go Gunners go…..
