Arteta on the only ‘dissapointing thing’ from Palace game
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has highlighted the only factor that dissapointed him during Friday night’s trip to Crystal Palace.
After wrapping up a fairly successful pre-season which saw summer signing Gabriel Jesus score a whopping seven goals for his new club, the Gunners went to Selhurst Park with confidence on their side on Friday.
A year ago, Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a woeful 2-0 loss to newly-promoted outfit Brentford, a result which saw them sit at the bottom of the table for the first few weeks of the season.
The Gunners did manage to avoid a disastrous opening day this time, but the 2-0 win over Palace did not come without some nervy moments as the home side went close to equalising on a number of ocassions when the score was still 1-0.
According to Mikel Arteta, his team’s inability to finish off most of their goalscoring chances and kill off the game was one of the few downsides on a day of much joy for Arsenal fans.
“The disappointing thing was that we didn’t score more goals because we had so many opportunities and we looked a real threat, but we cannot expect to do that here for 95 minutes, it’s not going to happen.” the Arsenal boss told the media
“Then we have moments where we have to show and dig in and be accountable in our job, especially when we are defending deep, and we did that fantastically well, so I’m really happy to get the clean sheet and the win.”
