Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has applauded the performance of one of his defenders after the draw away to Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.

The team’s poor start to the campaign has put them under pressure to pick up more points in the second half of the season in order to salvage any faint hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

Following the appointment of Mikel Arteta as the permanent replacement for Unai Emery, the Spaniard has managed to bring out more effort and dedication from certain players who were underperforming during his predecessor’s reign.

Shkodran Mustafi appears to be one of the players who are gradually getting better even though the defender produced a real blunder in the recent draw at Chelsea.

The 27-year-old was in solid form on Sunday as Arsenal kept a rare clean sheet against a resurgent Burnley side.

And after the game, Arteta applauded Mustafi for how good he was at Turf Moor.

“Yeah, I said to him that he could make a mistake but I like his reaction afterwards and the courage he had to play and make decisions.” Arteta said, as quoted by the Mirror

“He’s been training really well and I think you could see today how good he was.”
