Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed after the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday that one of his key players suffered an injury ahead of the game.
The Gunners have received praises in recent weeks for improving their form which has seen them secure a place in the semi-finals of the Europa League against Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal’s progress in Europe has been largely through the help of key midfielder Aaron Ramsey who scored in both games against CSKA Moscow in the quarter-final tie.
Despite featuring on Thursday night, the Welshman was not included in the squad which traveled to Newcastle over the weekend.
The former Cardiff City star was certainly missed as the Gunners went on to lose 2-1 even though Alexandre Lacazette gave them the lead in the first half.
Speaking after the loss to Newcastle, Wenger confirmed that Ramsey missed out on Sunday’s game due to an injury.
“Ramsey had a wound and couldn’t get into any contact.” Wenegr said after watching his side lose to the Magpies.
The Arsenal boss added that other players who were not named in the squad for Sunday’s fixture were out because of “little knocks”.
“The rest are little knocks and recovery tests, which weren’t good enough.”
