According to various sources, Mesut Özil has placed talks over his new Arsenal contract on hold with Bayern Munich still interested in signing him.
A report by the Sun is suggesting that Özil’s situation is being monitored by Bayern after the player’s recent holiday break in Dubai.
The 27-year-old has only two years remaining on his current contract but he has opted to not discuss an extension deal with Arsenal until he returns for pre-season training after the European Championships.
Özil currently earns £140,000-a-week and according to The Times, Arsenal are planning on increasing his wages to £200,000-a-week, making him the team’s highest earner.
The former Real Madrid star completed last season with 19 assists – the most by an Arsenal player since Thierry Henry in 2003.
