BBC’s David Ornstein adds update on Arsenal move to sign 25-year-old
BBC journalist David Ornstein has added an update on Arsenal’s move to sign a new midfielder with only a day now left in the January transfer window.
Unai Emery was a busy man last summer as he secured the services of several players after arriving at the club as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
However, the former Sevilla boss has had little to do in the transfer market this month, largely due to the club’s reluctance to invest in any new signings after two straight seasons without Champions League football.
Arsenal are believed to be pursuing a loan deal for one or two attacking players and FC Barcelona star Denis Suarez has been deemed as the club’s main target for much of this month.
The 25-year-old’s expected move to the Emirates stadium appeared to have collapsed only a few days ago but Barcelona and Arsenal have finally managed to find some sort of agreement.
According to David Ornstein, the deal has NOT been completed just yet but Suarez’s move to Arsenal is close to happening.
As widely reported, Arsenal close to completing deal for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. Not signed yet but 25yo to join on loan + option to buy (reports he’ll also extend #FCB contract to protect value). Won’t be at #CCFC game. #AFC continue winger hunt, no plans for defender
