BBC’s Ornstein reveals Arsenal deal to sign player has taken a strange twist

BBC journalist David Ornstein has revealed the latest regarding Arsenal’s move to secure what would be their second signing of the summer so far.
It has been known by much of the Arsenal faithful that the club’s owner Stan Kroenke has been very reluctant to hand Unai Emery a considerable amount of money to spend this summer.
The fact that there is little to no funds available to be spent means the Gunners boss has been keeping an eye on young and cheap talent like Gabriel Martinelli, who completed a move to the Emirates stadium last week.
After that deal, Unai Emery had been looking to sign William Saliba, who is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Europe today.
The Gunners appeared to be close to reaching an agreement with Saint-Étienne over a deal to sign him, however, Tottenham are now in the race to lure the youngster as well.
According to David Ornstein, the deal to sign Saliba has taken a dramatic twist with Spurs now seriously pushing to sign the Frenchman.
Negotiations between Arsenal, Saint Etienne and Saliba were in their very final stages – much of it already in the hands of lawyers to agree wording of contracts etc – but Tottenham have reignited their interest and are now pushing hard to get the deal completed #AFC #THFC #ASSE https://t.co/8uihItY3eS
