Bellerin: Why Oxlade-Chamberlain may not be starting games

Hector Bellerin insists he has found an understanding with Arsenal’s current first-choice player on the right wing.

The Spaniard has cemented his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up over the past 18 months after taking advantage of Mathieu Debuchy’s injury lay-off during the second-half of the 2014/15 season.

Bellerin has had the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott deployed in front of him on Arsenal’s right flank in various matches but the 21-year-old has chosen Walcott as his current favourite.

The England international produced a convincing display on Saturday both offensively and defensively as the Gunners beat Chelsea 3-0. And Bellerin insists Walcott is the right man for the job on the right wing.

“We have been playing together on the right side for the last few weeks and it’s a partnership we both enjoy.” he said. “We understand each other a lot and I think that shows on the pitch. It’s great fun to play with him [Walcott].”

Arsene Wenger has also praised Walcott for his efforts in recent games when the team loses possession and faces a threat out wide.

”[Theo] used to be 90 per cent forward and 10 per cent defending – today he does it 50-50 and does the job in both ways with commitment.” Wenger said

Bellerin and Walcott combined well for Arsenal’s second goal yesterday and here was a replay…
