Unai Emery has been given some positive news over the fitness of key attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan after the midfielder completed his comeback from injury this week.

The Gunners have been troubled by injuries this season, with hopes of a top four finish slowly fading away after a run of inconsistent results in the Premier League.

Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City on Sunday as they dropped down to sixth place in the league table, one point behind a resurgent Manchester United side.

Not involved in the trip to the Etihad stadium was Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has been sidelined by an injury for a couple of months now.

The 30-year-old finally completed his comeback from injury as he featured for the club’s U-23 team in their clash with West Ham on Monday night.

Mkhitaryan had recently returned to training but Monday saw him play in a game for the first time since he succumbed to an injury over a month ago.

“After a while, I came back. I started playing with the under-23s and I’m very happy. I hope that I won’t have any more injuries and I will keep playing.” the former Dortmund star said after featuring in a game which was called off after the first half

Mkhitaryan’s return to match fitness on Monday is good news for Emery who could include him in the squad for the upcoming clash with Huddersfield Town.
