Arsenal have received some encouragement from Leicester City in their bid to sign Riyad Mahrez this summer.

Following the additions of Granit Xhaka, Takuma Asano and Rob Holding, Arsene Wenger is expected to complete a deal for one or two more marquee signings before transfer deadline day.

Rumours from this weekend have suggested that the Gunners are edging closer to a deal to secure last season’s PFA Player of the year Riyad Mahrez after the midfielder expressed his desire to move to the Emirates stadium.

With rumours claiming the Algerian international has rejected a new contract, Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has moved to reassure fans of the Premier League champions that Arsenal’s offer could be turned down.

“We’re relaxed about it [reports about Arsenal]. Mahrez said to me ‘Don’t worry.’ He wants to stay.” the club’s chairman said

However, Srivaddhanaprabha has also admitted he is not entirely confident about Mahrez refusing to join Arsenal.

“I can’t say that he will stay for definite but I can say we have no policy or desire to sell players.” he added
