Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has applauded the performance of one of the Gunners’ key attackers on Monday as they defeated West Ham at the London stadium.

After the 1-0 win at home to Bournemouth all the way back in October, the Gunners went on a poor run which saw them fail to win in several games across all competitions.

Much of the fans’ high expectations for the team this season was based on the fact that Arsenal had chosen to spend big money on club-record signing Nicolas Pepe.

After a couple of games in England, the remarkable  amount of pressure placed on Pepe to perform already seemed to be taking its toll on the player, who went into Monday night’s game still waiting for his first goal from open play as an Arsenal player.

The former Ligue 1 star has not been enjoying much playing time in recent months but he was given a chance to shine by Freddie Ljungberg against Wets Ham.

And after seeing Pepe score a brilliant goal, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher revealed he was ‘delighted’ to see the Ivorian finally named in the starting eleven on Monday.

“I was delighted that he scored because it’s not easy coming into the Premier League, big signing, things haven’t gone well and the manager that signed you has left the club,” he said, as quoted by Goal.com

“I was delighted to see Pepe start but also to get this goal. It’s fantastic, left-footer, he bends it in.”

Prior to his Arsenal transfer, Pepe was linked (L’Equipe) with a move to Carragher’s beloved Liverpool, thus, it is easy to see why he might be an admirer of the winger.
