Clichy tells what is missing at the Emirates Stadium

Three years after the move to a new home, Gael Clichy is keen to reflect on what was so special about Arsenal’s old ground.

As the only current Arsenal player to have received a medal during the last title triumph in 2004, Clichy knows a thing or two about the ‘invincible’ feeling most Gunners had when facing an opponent at Highbury.

And when asked whether Arsenal still had the mentality that victory is assured going into home games, the French full-back confessed there just isn’t that feeling anymore in fixtures at the Emirates.

“Emirates is a great stadium with a great atmosphere but surely something is missing from Highbury.” Clichy said.

“I can’t tell why it’s missing but Highbury was really special and when you walked down the tunnel onto the pitch, you knew you were going to win no matter what.”

Clichy though, feels more at home at the Emirates. After all, it is where he seized a place in Wenger’s ‘new’ first team.

“But for me, my stadium will be the Emirates because I’m part of the new era and I was part of the first game there and that’s our place; the new team, the new generation.” he said.

“I did enjoy it when I played at Highbury and the atmosphere there was different from that of Emirates because it was much smaller. But the Emirates is the sort of big stadium players dream of.”
