Deal Close: Emery confirms 22-year-old attacker is set to agree new Arsenal deal
Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed that one of his first team stars is closing in on a new deal to remain at the Emirates stadium.
The new Arsenal boss has so far rewarded the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Granit Xhaka with contract extensions this summer.
Emery, who replaced Arsene Wenger back in May, has laid out his plans for the upcoming season which includes the offloading of certain players who are deemed to be surplus to requirements.
However, Alex Iwobi, who was in below-par form for much of last season, is set to be rewarded with a new deal nonetheless.
Indeed, the Arsenal boss has confirmed that the 22-year-old is set to agree to sign a new contract which will extend his stay at the Emirates stadium.
“I have the information – he’s near. First, I want to work with every player, and they are coming [back from their breaks after World Cup duty],” Emery said.
“Mesut [Ozil], Iwobi, [Mohamed] Elneny are starting to work with us, the first week is very good. My information is he is going to sign and continue with us.”
