West Ham have today denied that a release clause in Mohamed Diame’s contract has been triggered, contrary to constant claims that the midfielder was set for a move to north London.

The transfer saga which has ended in the player staying at Upton Park, saw West Ham and Diame locked in confusion in recent weeks over the former Wigan man’s future.

The 25-year-old had been subject to speculation during January over a possible move to Arsenal but no deal was materialized despite Arsene Wenger admitting interest in the player.

The Senegalese international has a £3.5 million release clause in his contract and could have left for a cheap fee. But with the transfer window now shut, the Gunners will have to make their pursuit for Diame in the summer.
