Did you know this about Arsenal?
Here are some unpopular but interesting facts about Arsenal – mostly from this season.
So as a gooner, did you know…
* Thomas Vermaelen’s 8 goals this season is more than strikers Eduardo and Carlos Vela’s combined total (7).
* Sol Campbell is yet to play a premier league game at the Emirates Stadium since his second coming.
* Cesc Fabregas has now equaled the record of most league goals by an Arsenal midfielder (14) which was held by Robert Pires.
* Arsenal have now gone 30 league games without a player ever being sent off in a match. (45 straight games in the entire season)
* The Gunners have already scored more than they did last season with this year’s 71 goals exceeding last term’s total of 68.
* But their total of 33 goals conceded in the league is their worst record over the last 6 seasons.
* Cesc Fabregas’ late penalty kick goal against Sunderland recently was the first spot-kick the Spaniard took and scored during a match in his Arsenal career. (He missed his first ever non-shoot out spot-kick for Arsenal at home to Stoke earlier this season.)
* Carlos Vela has only made one premier league start in his Arsenal career and none this season. (That came in the 3-0 win at Portsmouth in May 2009 where he scored the third goal)
* Johan Djourou, Kierran Gibbs and Armand Traore are the only current outfield players in the squad (other than reserves’ youngsters) who are yet to score a goal in their Arsenal career.
* The last time free-kick specialist Robin van Persie actually scored from a free-kick was against Sunderland in October 2007. The Dutch man has hit the woodwork or gone mightily close in attempts ever since.
* Andrey Arshavin is yet to be seen playing with his shirt untucked in his Arsenal career.
* Arsene Wenger’s current contract expires after the 2010/11 season.

actually bendtner scored from a spot kick vs portsmouth in the same game vela scored
You’re right 🙂
“* Andrey Arshavin is yet to be seen playing with his shirt untucked in his Arsenal career”
That’s because it would be around his knees and hinder his running if he untucked it… 😛
Sol Campbell is yet to play a premier league game at the Emirates Stadium since his second coming.
BURNLEY THE OTHER DAY????
No mate. Silvestre started, remember?
If you still can’t, then let me tell you that Nugent scored against us.
Remember now?
haha Nugent scoring is more than enough to highlight it was Fish Face in our back four!!!
i stand corrected
Arshavin shows respect and tucks his shirt in. your meant to have pride…you wouldnt turn up to work in your suit shoes and tie and then have your shirt untucked!
* Andrey Arshavin is yet to be seen playing with his shirt untucked in his Arsenal career.
He should untuck the shirt, it looks much better 🙂
Tucking is getting old fashioned
Great post, Randy! Enjoy reading it.
OMG Kidz!!!!…
Love it!
randy,i gotta question for you,man?
supposing we win all our games and dont win the title…will u be pisse @ arsenal n wenger?
Has Sagna scored a goal for The Arsenal?!
Yes he has mate, he scored a header when Arsenal lost 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in March 2008.
He gave Arsenal the lead and suffered a knee injury that forced him off that day. Moments after, Drogba scored a double to end our title hopes that season. (this was 07/08, the season Eduardo broke his leg of course.)
That’s Sagna’s one and only goal in his professional career too.
Good question. Keep them coming guys! 🙂
Thanks to you, Randy. Truly appreciate your help.
Yes justin against chelski.
Sagna scored against Chelsea, at the Bridge, few season back, from a corner kick.
I would like to add another tid bit at the end of the season..
-Arsenal came back from 10 points down to win the title by 1 point!!!
Up the Guns..come on boys!!! 8 more games left!! 8 wins you can do it!!!
Sunderland at home
Sol played!
Sol did NOT play that match. Silvestre did.
It was right after our 2-1 loss at Porto in midweek so he was tired.
If you still don’t remember, let me tell you this; Kenwyne Jones had a one-on-one chance with Almunia.
Remember now?
That made me laugh… mostly cos it’s so true. and the other one (Nugent).
Funny.
“Carlos Vela has only made one premier league start in his Arsenal career and none this season. (That came in the 3-0 win at Portsmouth in May 2009 where he scored the third goal)”
It’s funny that many so-called fans think carlos had enough chances to prove himself and want him to leave with a fact like that
I’m glad that you mentioned the RvP one about him going so long without scoring on a free kick despite him being a ‘free kick specialist’ because earlier in the season when he was still playing I kept thinking about how long it had been since he scored despite his being our main free kick taker.
He consistently unleashes a bomb that goes just wide or smacks off the post…
man I can’t wait to get RvP back…he truly is a world class player
his free kicks are amazing…they usually end in a rebound or cause trouble. His corner kicks are missed too..they have pace and they cause troubles.
I miss RVP and don’t think that he should be risked coming back. We have gotten this far without him, let this team move forward and go ahead without him for the remainder of the year.
Same thoughts here USA_G. At this moment what is the point of him coming back after being out for such a long time. The risks of him coming back and getting injured again are high! I’d love him back but he’ll probably miss out the entire season again next year. sigh.
I think the next time we are 5nil up and we get a penalty,it would be generous if almunia, traore, johan, gibbs or fabianski step up 2register their first goals for the club..about sagna,at least he didnt wait so much like anderson who couldnt even score in a pre season againts some part time chines pharmacist footballers.
Excellent posting Randy and great respones! How about this titbit. I saw Duncan Edwards score a screemer(spelling) to make it 4 – 3 for a Man U win in the 60,s .I think Jack Kelsey is still looking for rhe ball!!? I think it was the game before they flew off to Germany and then the Munich disaster. Thats an 80 year old’s memory. Laurie Beadle
Lawrence – Cheers man, and good recall there! 🙂
DKD – If we were to win all our games and not win the title, (hard to do but unlikely to be denied the reward if we do it) I would not be pissed at anyone.
Seeing them win those games is what I wanted them to do and if they’ve done it, what else should I ask of them?
That’s probably the only scenario in which I will settle for Arsenal losing out on the title or being second best…when they gave their absolute all, and we’re not just talking about effort but actually bagging 3 points after 3 points for 12 straight games.
I love rvp he is arsenal through and through a loyal gunner! I wish he could be fit a whole season, we would utterly rape man u an the like… Arsenal till I die!
I agree with you Santi… But i just can’t remember watching RvP playing through a whole season.
Good post
