Do you hate Gallas now?
Welcome to the Fantasy Debate.
This is where an interesting question/topic is posed for your responses. The comment with the most number of thumbs up will obviously be the best response made in the debate.
Today’s topic is:
Has William Gallas become a new hate figure for edging close to a Spurs move or will you forgive his decision?
The news of the moment is that former Arsenal captain William Gallas will be making his second ship-jumping across London soon.
The 33-year-old will have a medical at White Hart Lane on Friday to complete his transfer to Tottenham.
After refusing to renew his Arsenal contract because of wage demands, Gallas will end his free agency by staying in the Premier League with the Gunners’ fiercest rivals.
So how will you welcome the Frenchman should he return in white for November 21’s North London derby? Will it be a hostile welcome for his controversial switch or a warm one for his time as a Gunner.
For more of this, join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
I personally feel this news is as good as a new signing for Arsenal.
Not only have we gotten rid of a disloyal servant who gives 80% at most only when when HE wants to and quarrels with his teammates, we have also sent this virus to ‘help’ our dear neighbours just the way we want. 😆
Those fools probably think they’ve got a Maldini on their hands just because the guy is coming from big club status at Arsenal. Then they come back and tell us how they think Arsenal are a ‘nobody’.
That said, I still can’t understand why after Henry left, Wenger took away the captaincy from calm old Gilberto to give it to this disease. I did not believe it then (July 2007) and still can’t believe it now.
Then again, Wenger must have just hated Gilberto that year. Remember, he also demoted Gilberto to the bench for Flamini, after he came back from captaining Brazil to Copa America.
Gilberto must have used Wenger’s tight checkbook for shopping or something.
The truth is Gallas was the best defender Arsenal had last season. When he got injured we lost almost all the games he did not play. Even the two goals scored by barcelona were scored when he left the feild. His atitude is not good but he is good player better than vermalean.
I am sorry, but I got to say you are serial twat for not realizing Thomas Vermaelen is the best defender we have had at the club in the trophy-less era (2006-present).
Even Toure accomplished more than Gallas. Gallas’ impressive goal-scoring form blinded people into thinking he was an exceptional defender but the only time he defended reliably in his career was when he was at Chelsea.
For goodness sake, Gallas was part of the reason our backline had little answers to long balls.
To call Gallas better than Vermaelen is just utter rubbish. If he was really better than Vermaelen and so vital to the squad, Wenger would not have let him go just for a disagreement over a few pounds.
You are one of the pessimists who think we should roll around circles in fear when a player leaves the club because all of a sudden, you begin to over-appreciate what he did at the club and view him as a ‘god’ we will be missing when you’re probably the same person who might’ve called that player average when he was an Arsenal player.
It is so great when it is not yours but mediocre when it is.
I say if he goes there it might be a blessing in disguise he will be a major source of upset in the spuds dressing room. I never liked his character and he ain’t THAT fantastic for a defender anyway…..if spurs want him they can have him it will be a decision that will likely haunt them!!
The reality is we needed him, he is good defender. Arsene should have gone for him when Gallas saw the reality of the market. Now our rivals are getting a very good defender for less money. even less than what we could give him. It is shame for him and Arsene.
It’s not about hating him, I think most gooners always new he was never a loyal person, I’m not surprised at all, it was always about the money for him.
Didnt like him before he joined us.
Tbh he was past his sell by date then.
He’s done nothing but tout himself around Europe…blokes a first class tosser!
Never a Gooner always a Chav. Him and Twitchy deserve each other.
If i ever see him in the streets, i will SPIT on him!! what a scumbag!!!!!!
He’s a cunt.
Short and precise. Well said
And a very stink one for sure.
For me any other club warm welcome but to join that shit I’ll boo him wish we would have just payed him what he want though
He would get injured before the derby but shall be booed in absentia.
Same as adebayor, sh1t face!
ive never liked him so I dont care!!!
he’s like a virus, this is great news.
i always hated him
never liked him at Chelski, never liked him at Arsenal. Spuds are welcome to “Mr Trouble”
Never liked him anyway. Before we took Campbell, Spuds loved him and he was a hero. The fact I don’t like Gallas really helps matters.
gallas spoke the truth about our over pampered pussies in the team. he stood up to wenger and told him the truth. wenger did not want to face the truth about his failed team of highly paid (but achieved nothing) youth players so took the captaincy off him and then run him into the ground by refusing to buy cover for him. he was our best defender by a mile ( a real winner in a team full of losers) and he will be missed.
anybody who thinks gallas was not a good defender for us is an idiot who knows fa about football.
You know fuck all about everything.
Good defender, lousy human being.
He was a SHITE leader you are a sad spud! Cover blown spuddy!
Kings a useless crock and gallas is always injured come the crunch times of the season!
go fuck yourself you piece of shit. come to north london and tell me to my face that i am a spud. i’ll be waiting for you…
100% agree mate
You are a fucking idiot if you dont rate gallas.
You are all hypocrits too because we all hate our current squad and what wenger is doing, yet when gallas says as much that they are not giving 100% (which is toatlly true, they are the ones with no loyalty, they will all fuck off to barca if they ever succeed)
And whoever said he gave 80% is a fucking moron, the guy was always out to win and gave more than anyone bar fabregas.
Stripped captaincy and didnt moan so where is all this moaning tag coming from, infact he became even better after he as stripped.
Get a life.
We are losing all our best players from the 2008 team which was the best since 2004 and the best team in england at the time, possibly europe (yes we were that good before eduardos leg was destroyed) Had jens been kept in goal we would have won something.
We have lost gallas, ade, Hleb, flams and soon fabregas. Im pretty fed up with our attitude of not keeping or at least replacing with similar or better quality.
I hope we beat spurs but i also hope gallas headbutts bentdner. Now that is a cunt, ignoring team rules and saying he will go real. Get a clue you mugs and look at who fights for the team first.
Well I will not say team full of losers but you are right by saying Gallas was good defender. He was good tackler, and last season he did very well for the team until we lost him.
Question is, do we hate gallas more or this anonamous tosser who is possibly the worst ‘arsenal fan’ ive ever heard. Fuck off mate gallas was ok, his age helped organisation at the back and we accept that, but he was a winy prick, we saw that at birmingham a few seasonsa ago and his antics at the world cup when he wasnt given the captaincy was laughable.
Most disloyal piece of shit ever, and people seem to forget the reason chelsea told him to fuck off was because he said he’d score own goals if he ever played for them again. Biggest drama queen ever, good riddance to that cunt.
And WHO THE FUCK does he think he is standing up to WENGER. if you dont support wenger, then you dont support arsenal. HE IS ARSENAL, its all in his first name..
i’m gutted, say what you want about him but he is a leader, him and king in the middle for the spuds will be pretty formidable and redknapp will get the best out of him.
Bothered!
His departure has meant we have a harmonious dressing room, the fact he has gone to the spuds is no big deal and his loyalties were always to himself and his bank balance.
Wenger should have paid his wages and then wouldn’t need to be forking out around £7 million for this new guy.
Top Cunt!! No loyalty watsoever!! What did we expect from him anyway? he came from the chavs anyways
Never really warmed to him, but never had a reason to dislike him though until now……….
50 times more than adebayor amd even more than ashley cole I would say. I can’t believe he was arsenal captain.
Love him or hate him, Spuds are getting a quality defender.
Only reason we didn’t sign him is because he’s always injured in the business end of the season.
Why are we offended, remember we did the same thing with Sol Campbell??????
Who cares good luck to him, he spends half the season injured anyway so he’ll fit in with the other Spud Centre Backs. Personally I think he gave his all when playing for us couldn’t get the new deal he wanted so if the Spuds want him we shouldn’t hold it against him
I get the “who cares” bit, but why on earth would I wish him luck with the scum?
I reckon it’s a move that would be met with a huge ‘meh’ and shrug of the shoulders by most gooners – we never really took to him, and I can’t exactly see him coming back to haunt us… He’ll just be company for King and Woodgate in the treatment room
lol great plan Arsene send Gallas to destroy Spurs!
Good Riddance to bad rubbish.
Never liked em.
I think he’ll be in for one torrid heckling on his first visit back….
I feel sorry for him, I really do. Seems like he’s tried to get a deal with so many clubs in so many leagues and now this is his last resort. Lol, at least they will pay him well for keeping their physio busy. We have enough like that already.
Au revoir, knob jockey. He’ll fit in like a rotten spud left in the back of the Arsenal cupboard. Enjoy spurs.
A said above, we sent them a nice and dirty virus, he ll be moaning in about 3 weeks for not playing at the right position or with the right players.
I liked Gallas what he always gave was a 100%,and he played with passion what he did at Birmingham was what every Gooner was feeling. And he wasnt afraid to tell it like it was when he said we needed more quality players. He will win the same at the Lane as he would have had he stayed at Arsenal
I don’t think i’ll start to hate him now never felt he was a proper Arsenal player anyway and although he’s a good defender he’s a lousy character so spuds may have him
Really just epitomises the modern day footballer…, its all about them and they alone!
Former Arsenal captain and player, the rivalry with the spuds…, it means nothing behind him getting his payday. This guy could have signed with Juventus but has signed with the spuds…, mercenary.
He’s a good defender but a cancer to the locker room and when you add in his injury record at the tail end of the season then it probably negates the experience factor that he could bring.
And I suppose after ‘arry’ talking about the hundred and fifty players he’d liked to sign this summer, then he was bound to get one of them.
If I’m honest then the overiding feeling I have is that i am glad we are shot of him!
Good riddance.
I blame wenger for this. He sold kolo toure to keep this mug happy. Should of sold him instead of toure
he sold Toure because he thought Kolo was past his prime adn Gallas was a better defender.
Who are these clowns saying Gallas will be missed? He was missing when he was an Arsenal player due to his fucking disabled thigh muscle. He was missing that day in Birmingham as well when he embarrassed the club by crying like a massive baby on the floor because we drew a game. Great defender on his day but terrible man and leader of men he ain’t.
The Koz pisses all over him.
no reason to hate him,he did what other players do,just asked for a 3 year contract, never got and chose spuds, easy as that.thank god for that they just signed a croc
Who cares!
I can’t see the Spuds being mad enough to meet his wage demands to be honest. I’d be surprised if he went there. Infact cant see anyone meeting his high wage demands as he is gonna be injured for atleast a third of the season if not more.
He might have to retire to save face heh heh
boo the prick
Never rated him and that is not a spur of the moment comment.Injury prone, erratic, egotistical and goes missing in big games, good luck to the spuds you will need it.
In his prime he was a great defender yet he always had a tag as a trouble maker and I am glad to be rid of him. Hey, Sol made the leap. He’s just a professional footballer plying his trade. Still he must know he’s going to get some stick-I don’t think these guys care anyway-it will be the fans that get bent out of shape and he pockets a cool 60K-80K a week.
Forget Gallas and lets worry about who we have in our team now
Spurs fans are going to try and make out he’s as big a coup as Sol Campbell
And that’s why this is funny
Ridiculous – who gives a toss who he goes to? Never mattered to me, could never bother me
It’s not like we lost our captain is it?
I liked him he scored some important goals and didn’t make too many mistakes. He lost it at Birmingham but then we had lost a player in that game and cocked up a potential title winning run. I thought he would play a few games at left back for us but AW must have promised him he would never play him there – shame as he was a bloody good LB when he played there for the shit got no history. This guy from seville is also injury prone and he’s 30 and I don’t think he is that great, if we can’t find a 24-26 year old world class CB then we should have stuck with Gallas until we find one who will give us 5+ years not an expensive stop gap who may give us 2-3 and has an injury history. Sol was different – he ran down his contract at spuds and there was bad blood plus he was in his prime. Gallas is leaving coz AW didn’t want to give him more than a year yet the seville guy who is 30 will proabably get a 3-4 year contract…
Why wenger gave him the captains armband ahead of SUPER GILBERTO & THE LEGENDS SHIRT i dont know him going to scum means only 1 thing no top team wanted the garbage haha i hope he scores own goals.
No, I do not hate him he is not worth it.
I dont hate Gallas, I dont like him but I dont hate him. However I do hate Wenger. With a passion.
Who cares..I won’t waste any of my precious time just to think about the spuds
I don’t hate him either, I would want out of the emirates with a passion if I was a player. The only person to hate is wenger, what a clown.
Gallas? Was, and thankfully is pretty much past it, a world class defender even though he seemed a bit of a twat. He’s bound to rub the spuddies up the wrong way i just hope its sooner rather than later. Whatever, we are talking about a team that cant even compete with young boys.
erm…..i don’t hate gallas, i pitty him tho for thinking he’s alot more than he’s worth, hence the reason no one across europe was willing to pay what his extortionate new attempted wage package, so he’s had to climb down and except spurs offer….he has no friends as you know, and since moving to london has never ever really made any place his home, yet he’s played for a good three teams now…..i pitty him, instead of booing why don’t we all clap for him everytime he touches the ball for evertything he’s done for london…..billy no mates has the key to the city lmao
In the epl or for that matter anywhere in the world money talks.Make no mistale Gallas is an excellent defender. If Spurs get him and he becomes central to their achieving something in the epl or cl at the expense of Arsenal,it will be a case of money well spent.
Rednapp is an astute manager and he doesn’t waste time playing fancy football at the expense of results.Wenger ‘s get rid of players aged 30 mentality will come back to haunt him especially if Arsenal can’t win anything this season. Qualifying for the cl is going to be extremely tough. The warning signs have been there the last few seasons.
To be honest, Gallas did score some crucial goals despite being a CB during his time at Arsenal. At the same time, he also gave his team mates some problems . I have mixed feelings over his departure. I wouldn’t mind him leaving our beloved club to any others but not Spurs. Is he doing it out of revenge after being dropped as captain?
I don’t think he is joining for revenge but couln’t get a team at the wage he was demanding. He thought being free tranfer will help him but it didn’t. Unfortunately, Arsene did not call him again to sign him. I am sure he could came back if Arsene had could him and told him the same offer is on the table.
Look he is a tool of the highest order, however, he is a briliant defender and in my opinion not something we have been used to in recent years. There is no doubting thommy v is quality, but he does have a tendancy to get caught too far up the pitch. Like him or loath him, gallas is a quality player and I was gutted we didn’t sign him up. The sevilla guy although a solid defender is no where near the same class. I think twitchy will get the best out of gallas and establish an Indian summer in his career. Let’s stop kidding our selves, djorou is not reliable defender, injury prone and over rated because he is injury prone. It’s time to wake up and start to compete with the big boys of world football, after all we claim to be one of the top teams. We have sold our best players for the last five seasons and replaced them with inconsistent alternatives. We need to address the situation, the fact we haven’t signed a world class keeper speaks volumes for our current situation.
It is now VERMAELEN who has the tendency of being caught too far up the pitch? Honestly, what on earth has gotten over you guys tonight?
Which other defender was more attacking-minded than Gallas? He roams in attack randomly and even Wenger called him our ’emergency frontman’. That was why he scored many goals but on several occasions, he was the one who left us wanting at the back when we were counter-attacked.
Remember that counter-attack goal Rooney scored against us at the Emirates earlier this year? Go back and watch it and you’ll see that it was Gallas who lost the ball in United’s box for Rooney to play a one-two with Nani and Denilson, who tried to cover Gallas’ position couldn’t help but see us concede.
Gallas was a decent defender at times for us, but if he had any shortcomings, it was his inability to clear long balls and his tendency to join the men upfront (too much) which left us open.
Oh, and remember the second goal we conceded against Drogba at Stamford Bridge (2-0 loss)? Watch it again and you’ll ask why it was only Vermaelen and Diaby who were defending Drogba.
Ill happily solve this riddle for you. They BOTH have a tendency to get caught too far up the pitch. Ta-daaa! Confusion over.
Just because Vermaelen scores a lot of goals for a defender (like Gallas) does not automatically mean he also has the tendency to get caught.
Vermaelen does not necessarily go far into box when he engages in attack. If you saw most his eight goals last year, they were mainly long-range efforts or from dead-ball situations. And when he does go forward, he actually takes responsibility for getting caught – like rushing back and fouling the opposing player and getting a yellow (ie:against AZ Alkmaar).
But Gallas leaves it to Vermaelen and one of our midfielders to clear the dirt while he races back after our failed corner-kicks.
Ta-daaa!….confusion over.
What is your point you mug. When did i say it had anything to do with the number of goals he scores?
Im perfectly aware that many resulted from set pieces.
That doesn’t change the fact that he got caught quite a few times having brought the ball out of our half or coming up to provide support.
If you actually thought about it rather than just sizing the debate up as a competition between gallas and tv then youd realize that. Both are very good defenders and perhaps gallas had the greater tendency to come forward but that isnt to say tv didnt and that he didnt get caught out as well. Because he definitely did and if you think otherwise then you are simply wrong.
Still confused mate?
Completely agree. Most of you sound like bitter women talking about their exes. “i didnt really like him in the first place”.
Yes hes a prick but hes a quality defender and had a very good season for us last year.
Theres he a good chance hes not even going to be first choice at cb for them…
Meaning they have a world class cb warming the bench.
Say what you will about france and their underachievement in the past few tournaments but they are alwayd seen to be underachieving because they have quality individuals. And gallas has been in their back four for years. hes a poisonous bastard no doubt but hed make any team better and spurs should be delighted to get him on a free.
First of All, I would like to say that the last season, Gallas was arguably the SPINE of the team, along with Fabregas, and at least ensured our defence or midfield had a touch of world-class.
On retrospect, what were we thinking when we offered him only a year of contract this season, with a pay cut??? We have just wasted a chance of keeping an experienced defender among our ranks.
Therefore, our former captain joining Spurs is not coming as a surprise…….. IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN. Hate or like, at the end of the day, at the end of the season, it is our defence that will bear the brunt, (going to the extent of using the 3rd tier Nordveit), giving Spurs a better chance…… What more can be said!!
Fair enough that is one example. However, gallas was not on the pitch when barca scored at the emirates tv was caught out of position. Against Liverpool he was caught out again. I’m not on an anti tv parade here, far from it. He’s been the best signing we have made since Henry imo. However there is no escaping the fact we have either lost our best players through carlessness ie the bosman ruling, flamini and pires particularly (even campbell twice) and have not replaced them with good enough alternatives. When was the last time arsenal had a goal scoring winger, or indeed a winger? During our title winning seasons we always had a goal threat from the wings- overmars, Freddie, pires, limpar, even wiltord. We have settled for a place in the champions league and have failed to capatilise on being the best team in england with world wide appeal for players and fans. We had the money and power swing, to buy players like Rooney and drogba, but failed to capatilise. Even drogba said he supported the ‘frenchies’ ie arsenal before he left marsailles. That’s what I find so frustrating with arsenal at the moment, especailly the silly policy of not rewarding over thirty players with good contracts, yet we gave agent silvestre a 2 year contract when he signed. You only have to look at loyal players like scholes and giggs and scum u to see that it can work. That’s what I find frustrating with the gallas deal, amongst so many other things, as you can see within my rant.
To be fair tv seemed to have his man against barca at home. Song should have been tighter on ibs.
But obviously i cant be sure who was meant to be marking who.
In answer to your question YES I do hate him but, perhaps I shouldn,t because the other disloyal jerk now at Newcastle came the opposite way. My bigger problem is we have lost so many players young and old the past few months without much back in.We offer comparitively paltry money for top players and give away Acedemy players away after spending huge sums and many years on them . What is going onMr Economist.
He will be missed? Are you freaking kiddin me he wont be missed his an overrated and overrpaid premadorma. Hes just going to the spuds cause hes getting a big payday with arry nd all promising him fake ”wages” just to keep little winy C**T quiet. He could have gone to any club in the world but he ends up going to those dirty spuds.
Why do you think chelsea sold him in a swap deal cause he was a trouble maker and remember hes good old rant ” im going to score an own goal if i dont leave” and then notriously bashing off half of his teamates in the national press when he himself has a part to blame for arsenal trophy doughts.
Yes on his day i admit hes was world class but too incostient he had a part to blame for arsenal conceding so many goals from set ups and counter attacks, oh well players in modern dayz dont give a shit about loyalty its all about money they wud kill their mothers for a dollar thats how some footballers are greedy C*nts nowadayz
Finally someone not talking out of Gallas’ ass.
COrrect me if I’m wrong but aren’t you a yank?
Please don’t act like the rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs even concerns you.
Because it doesn’t.
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t you a fool?
Please don’t act like the rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs is meant to concern only those from England (what about the foreign players involved directly?).
Because it doesn’t.
My point was stop making idiotic comments that Gallas going to Spurs is as good as a signing for us, because anyone with any knowledge about football (sawker) know that is absolute nonsense.
It might help you feel a little more like a real Gooner and less like a Yank pretending to be one to try and downtalk Spurs when they’ve actually got a good deal, but it doesn’t convince anyone who has supported arsenal for more than a year that you are actually someone who knows anything about football.
I was born and raised in Islington and have been going to Highbury since I was 6 years old. I hate Spurs with a passion… not some little adopted American attempt at passion.
But Gallas is a good player and Spurs have got a good deal. End of.
Anyone who says Gallas was a good defender for Arsenal only needs to look at the stats for the seasons he was here. I can’t remember a time when we were WORSE at defending … goals pouring in. Fact.
Good riddance you moany cunt.
He was also a mainstay of a Chelsea defence which was one of the stingiest in Premiership history.
I suppose that he had nothing to do with that though?
Idiot.
That guy was only talking about Gallas’ stats at Arsenal and never mentioned Chelsea.
Gallas might have been impressive at Chelsea but he really wasn’t as decisive at Arsenal.
At the end of the day, as a defender, not conceding goals matters most and looking at the number of goals we still leaked with the ‘brilliant’ Gallas present (ie: 4-4 draw with Spurs), you could say he was a good defender only individually and perhaps not collectively.
He supposedly had a ‘solid’ season at the back with Vermaelen last year but we still managed to concede the most we had ever done in the past 5 seasons.
what the hell are you talking about?
You are actually making a fool out of yourself.
I think its pretty obvious he was talking about Gallas’s stats at arsenal.
I’m saying if you want to blame Gallas for Arsenal having a leaky defence then you have to give him equal credit for Chelsea’s brilliant defence while he was there.
And in the same respect, you can’t blame Gallas for “still managing to concede the most we have for 5 seasons” on Gallas and then big up Vermaelen like he had nothing to do with it.
And for the record I never called him “brilliant”. He’s a very good defender with a proven track record at the top level.
Go ahead and ask anybody with any understanding of the game whatsoever if Gallas was a bad defender. We both know what the answer will be.
Please don’t try to talk down to me when it comes to Arsenal or football. You are a Yank who has shown himself to know and understand very little about the game. When you have spent years watching arsenal in the flesh week-in-and-week-out then you can have your opinion. Until then stick to kicking your “sawker” ball into “goal bags” u eejit.
If you ask me I cant tell who was a better defender gallas or verminator they both similar defenders they both like to attack we need a defender similar to sol campbell who stays back while vermiantor attacks thats the reason we got 41 goals scored againist us plus alumnia and flabianski were the reason behind that as well
who cares about Gallas realy. His sense of self worth is too high. The reason why he was pushed out of Chelsea and the reason wy he is leaving Arsenal now. Adios Gallas
On a positive note, “Randy”, (trying hard to disguise your Yank descent I see), I did find the cartoon of Gallas very amusing.
Maybe you should leave the opinions to real fans and stick to humor mate.
BBC hotsp*r have reported that Gallas is 32. Alas, he is 33. And that is the point.
He is an older player now and has a history of injury. We offered him 30k/week (plus incentives) but he thought he was worth more. He has had the legal ability to negotiate with other clubs since 1st January but has found no reasonable offers.
Instead he has signed for sp*rs. On the plus side, Gallas will not need to move house. On the negative side, Gallas will only ever be remembered as a mercenary and a trouble making one at that.
The media will spin this as some sort of failure for Arsenal. But actually, Gallas spent nearly 8 months trying to find a club and found he was left only with the tiny totts. I actually feel sorry for him.
Gallas will add some ‘leadership’ to the sp*rs dressing room too. I hope they make him captain.
When sp*rs come to the Emirates we should gleefully applaud Gallas. Gallas is clearly determined to do some charity work in his old age. This selfless act should be hailed.
Hate him? No; he is a professional sportsman trying to earn a living, he is not an Arsenal fan and, having completed his contract, he owes nothing to the club. No one else seems interested in employing him so it’s natural he is talking to Spurs. It’s Tottenam Hotspur, not the Taliban. Get over it.
