Arsenal manager Unai Emery had praise for only two Arsenal players after the humiliation which occurred at Anfield on Saturday evening.

The new Arsenal manager was appointed as Arsene Wenger’s replacement almost six months ago as the Gunners looked to begin a new era following a rare season without Champions League football.

In his debut campaign at Arsenal so far, Emery has faced a few challenges after a harsh start which saw him lose two straight games to Premier League rivals back in August.

A long unbeaten run in all competitions which only recently ended had seen Emery attract plaudits from fans.

However, the Gunners’ below-par form has returned in recent weeks and Saturday’s 5-1 defeat at Liverpool was the latest disappointing show.

Most fans felt a majority of the Arsenal players who featured at Anfield were unworthy of any praise but Emery did pick out two stars who impressed him.

According to the Arsenal boss, Alex Iwobi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were the ones who gave him something to cheer about.

“There were some positives on the pitch – for example Ainsley played as right winger and scored, working well.” Emery said after the game

“Also Iwobi, after some matches not playing very well, today he played 90 minutes with a good performance. But defensively we need to be stronger, to work.”
