Fans react to Mohamed Elneny’s performance against Middlesbrough
Mohamed Elneny has received mixed reviews for his display in Saturday’s Premier League affair with Middlesbrough.
The Egyptian was signed in January as a direct alternative to Francis Coquelin, but the arrival of Granit Xhaka during the summer has limited his playing time.
With Xhaka serving a three-game suspension while Santi Cazorla nursed an Achilles injury, Elneny was handed a rare start this weekend.
However, it was an outing to forget as Aitor Karanka’s men held Arsenal to a frustrating 0-0 which saw the Gunners fail to take advantage of having 75% possession.
Elneny was one of a few changes to the starting line-up from Wednesday 6-0 thumping of Ludogorets and so the 24-year-old’s impact was watched closely by fans.
Here were the reactions of Gooners about how he played on Saturday…
Problem yesterday was that ozil dropped too deep. Coquelin/Elneny didn't push up. Wenger should have taken one off for Perez + put Ozil CM

Elneny is our best player at doing nothing he's a Jack of all trades but a master of none. Decent squad player though. #afc

I think Elneny can work as a major passing outlet in games where the opponent is doing something other than playing eight defenders >

Coq -Elneny works when there are chunks of the game where we have to soak in the pressure and play on the counter.
