Fernando Torres swap deal for Theo Walcott?
Welcome to Throw The Topic (formerly Fantasy Debate)
This is where an interesting question/topic is posed for your responses. The comment with the most number of thumbs up will obviously be the best response made in the debate.
Today’s topic is:
Would you accept or decline an offer from Chelsea to swap Fernando Torres for Theo Walcott?
Torres remains out of form while Walcott until yesterday was on a purple patch.
Both players from either side of London have been much-maligned this season. And knowing the Gunners’ reputation in transfer dealings with Chelsea despite their rivalry, any deal could be on the cards as both clubs look to offload players.
Torres has gone out of favour at Stamford Bridge after the return of Drogba while Theo Walcott is yet to fully convince Arsenal over a new contract at the club.
So what if Arsenal and Chelsea came to a compromise similar to the one between William Gallas and Ashley Cole.
Torres might have attracted a £50 million price tag just over a year ago but indeed, his form has been so poor that Walcott’s own lowly record of five goals in the Premier League all season is actually more than that of the Spaniard (two).
Apart from that, Walcott at 22 years old still has age on his side and perhaps is yet to reach his peak, while others believe that Torres who had been undoubtedly world class prior to his Chelsea move just needs a new environment to rediscover his golden touch.
But would you accept a swap deal to offload Walcott – who has attracted Chelsea’s interest – and get Torres?

definatly not Theo Walcott is way better than Torres :S
Torres is NATURALLY more talented at football than Walcott and has accomplished far more. Euro 2008 winner, World Cup winner and banged in 30 goals a season for Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.
He’s a world class player with very low confidence and on a barren spell which can’t last forever however long it takes.
On the other hand, Walcott is a promising forward (has been for 6 years now) with great pace whose best season was last year when he scored around 15 goals.
Theo’s good, but don’t be fooled by yesterday’s quick strikes (which followed a horrible first-half performance which even HE admitted to).
We’ve got Chamberlain who is just about Theo with a better footballing brain to replace him and even Gervinho is there for that pace factor.
I’d take this deal in a heart beat, also considering how we’re in need of a big name striker to help RVP.
I Agree with you on that with all my heart
IDIOT!
No thanks. Would rather have Walcott.
mate cmon say yes to torres……walcottt has great days ahead but not now,,,,,,and h has to prove a lot …
NO.
no, torres is past it, walcott can at least improve
No chance Torres will be good again but not at Arsenal !!!
Swap today
it’s Torres’s injuries. They look to have ruined his career.
RVP loves theo, and we may not easily replace that chemistry between them.
If RVP stays then theo should stay along with most of the team. Changing players doesn’t work instantly and we need to keep our team together and add for a change
Walcott is tough guy to deal with, when the rest of the team plays good, and if there is good CM to support him. I think it is important to understand that arsenal lacks the quality at midfield due to fabrigas departure.
It’s not football manager, you don’t just “swap” players.
To swap means giving Walcott + probably £10-20million, and losing a player on £40000 a week and gaining one on £150000 a week.
Both are below par, sell Walcott, buy someone else.
Judging these posts as a Chelsea fan , the prize for most sensible answer goes to you ” sell Walcott, buy someone else”. I think both clubs would benefit by selling these duds and looking for far better talent.
Chelsea fan, pls go to a Chelsea site or blog and comment.Shut ur trap.50 Million pound waste wit Theo?.Keep ur 50 Million pound nightmare to urselves.Theo ain’t going nowhere.
theo! theo! theo!
no way, Torres getting better in Arsenal knowing RVP is there scoring left and right!! ya that would help his scoring, like it helped, B52, or Chamack.
I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU IDIOTS WHO WANT TO KEEP THICKO WALCOTT. I HAVE BEEN HEARING FROM SO MANY OF YOU HOW HE IS GOING TO IMPROVE. THIS GUY HAS BEEN AT ARSENAL FOR 6 YEARS AND LOOKS LIKE A DIVISION ONE PLAYER – OXO HAS BEEN AT ARSENAL FOR 6 MONTHS – GET THE PICTURE!
AS THEY SAY CLASS IS CLASS AND ARSE IS ARSE – TORRES IS CLASS AND WALCOTT AN ARSE!
Please do it now! !
I think the deal will favour chelsea than arsenal why becouse Torres has gone far in his career while Theo is yet to start
Theo is decent but lacks consistency. What most people won’t realise is that the main reason Torres’ form plummetted was simply because he does not fit in to Chelsea’s style of play. Torres is lethal when playing on the last man and running off him, but Chelsea’s slow build up play and severe lack of midfield quality are obviously what’s thrawted him. Put the Torres in a high tempo team such as Arsenal who play with build up but also very quick precisive play and he would be lethal. It’s impossible to predict the future so there’s no point talking about Theo, what he could be etc… All that can be said now is somedays he wows us, others he’s a complete let down. Would I swap Theo for Fernando? No, Fernando would want a lot more in wages, he’s older and too be honest Theo could probably play off the last man like Torres would love to, but with more pace. The control, technique and finishing I’m sure Theo could develop seeing as he’s just 22.
Think.
Peace!
I HAVE YET TO SEE A PLAYER DEVELOP TECHNIQUE AT 22. WAKE-UP, THIS GUY IS POOR. YES – HE HAS PACE BUT AS I AM SURE YOU HAVE SEEN, HE CANNOT EVEN BEAT A DEFENDER ONE-ON-ONE
Nobody’s asking him to beat a defender one on one! Just to use his brain. He will realise dribbling around players isn’t his strength… so why not play a quick one two and dart around them whilst waiting for the return? He just needs to relax on the ball.
@iamjamiemonk if you want a proper chat. Caps not included by the way.
I will keep Theo. The problem he has is that there is no natural attacker or seven for him to mime.He had a peak after Beckham’s contact. Now he is starting to attempt dribbling since he sees Gerv and Ox and Ryo…He would soon mime them all and a super hero will emerge.Keep him.
No chance Theo will become a great Arsenal player, he just needs the correct coaching and support, if he was sold we would live to regret it. I would take Torres to Arsenal as he is a class act who needs the right club but not for Theo. Anyone on here who slate Theo go and support Spurs you slags.
SO YOU THINK 6 YEARS OF COACHING AND SUPPORT IS NOT ENOUGH? HIS TECHNIQUE, BALANCE AND CONTROL IS POOR AND HE IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN AVERAGE PLAYER AND A SPRINTER. PERHAPS YOU DID NOT SEE THE FIRST 60 MINUTES OF THE GAME ON SUNDAY OR DID YOU JUST SEE THE LAST 2 GOALS AFTER THE GAME WAS WON AND THERE WAS NO PRESSURE!
Looking forward to the deal to materialized.
Torres is still good but not for chelsea.Get him and he will proove us he’s still the best.Gunners for life.
Yup its a gud deal considern arsenal playz beta passing futbal dat dey just need sum1 2 put d ball bhhind d net which toress z gud at opposed 2 Chelsea’s stressful style of play which El-Nino z not suitable wit.
Decline without a minutes hesitation. Llorente Torres is a different matter.
You mean Fernando Llorente? lmao 😀
No we dont need Torres, the player we need right now is Podolski.
Yes Torres for Walcutt is not a bad swap. Cos walcutt has been given enough time but all to no avail. Torres on the other hand is completly out of form since he signed for chelsea, but i still prefear him to walcutt.
That will certainly be the deal of the century. It is a welcome idea.
Who the hell in this world started this?our dear team isn’t a dumping ground for player like Torres.
Walc is a such of player that can still penetrate 4 gooner i disagree of that offloaded.
No. Sell Walcott and buy Hazard or Gotze. Either will be expensive but not as expensive as Torres and just as good if not better
For god’s sake will all you know-alls get off individual players backs and support the club as a whole.
If you lot think this non stop criticism is going to help you are deluded beyond belief !
We have young players in our team that are constantly put under a microscope by so called fans, how do you think this will help confidence ?
Because of the financial restraints in place, Arsenal are a club that will adopt this method of team building via the development of these young players, and will be for some years to come, and given the vocal support of the fans they will flourish.
What happens when Jack wilshire or the ox go through a bad spell, because they will at some stage, you lot will kick the confidence out of them too.
I believe AW is an excellent manager that has proved himself beyond question, that doesn’t mean he won’t make mistakes, what person on this planet doesn’t.
He can’t control confidence on the pitch, but the fans can, in a massive way.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE fan power.
AW is not a fool, he see’s things in training that gives him the belief that he has a team capable of competing with the best, and I make him right, bear in mind the injuries we have yet again been hit with and the loss of Fab & Nas, we have still managed to get ourselves up to 4th place, some of you will see that as unaceptable and long for a trophy.
We are as a club on a long term rebuild of this great club and we have a stadium to be proud of, how many other clubs could do what we have done and remain in the top half of the premiership without being billions in the red?
If we can keep our young players together and make them feel part of this “rebirth” I feel in the next two to three years we will be the dominant force in th EPL, but this will not happen when so many people are so negative.
We must accept where we are currently and support the team and the management through this period and we will reap the rewards, and we have to see trophies as a bonus.
Let mangers manage, let players be players and let fans support – SIMPLE !
SOORY – YOU ARE TALKING RUBBISH! IF WILSHERE OR OXO GO THRU A BAD PATCH WE WILL SUPPORT THEM, HOWEVER IF THAT BAD PATCH LAST 6 YEARS I WILL INSIST THEY LEAVE ALSO.
PS. I don’t think Torres is in decline, like walcott he is suffering a lack of confidence, although I think Torres is play for a club that don’t play his kind of football.
Would I Swap Theo for Torres – No !
Would I sign Torres as an addition to our squad – For the right price and wages – yes, in a flash.
I don’t mean to sound racist, but, we do need more white folks during the winter time at least. I don’t mind the coloreds, but, they fail to perform in sub-zero temperatures, that’s why they ship ’em out every two years to ACN (to warm up). More to question at hand: any given day!
YOU ARE RACIST!
To be honest Theo has been played out of position which explains his poor performances he is a STRIKER not a WINGER which explains it all… just like henry was crap when he first joined arsenal and look at him now converted into a striker and the best the premier league has ever seen.. i say judge him in his best natural position as a striker and lets go from there…in my view he will score alot of goals in his favoured positions and still has time to grow..
I say no to the swap not at alll
I AM SICK OF HEARING THIS STUPID EXCUSE. WITH HIS PACE IF YOU CANNOT PLAY ON THE WING WHEN YOU ARE UP AGAINST ONE DEFENDER HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU TO COPE THRU THE MIDDLE. OXO IS ALSO PLAYING OUT OF POSITION, CAN YOU NOT SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 PLAYERS. TW HAS BEEN AT ARSENAL FOR 6 YEARS AND HE HAS NOT IMPROVED – CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT?
Coloreds? what the heck are we still living in the time of plantation workers?? what a nonsense comment.. there is always a prick that comes up with stupid ass comments
I will love to see Torres in white and red colour.
I would be against ANY Arsenal player moving to Chelsea, but I would take a cut price deal for Torres.
If Theo is deemed surplus to requirements then let him go to Barca, Milan, or PSG as they would all pay good money for him. Truth be told, he would probably thrive on the better service he would get over there?
Personally,if we get a half decent attacking MF would can play him the right ball quickly then I would keep him … He may have to wait for Coguelin to become that player we are missing though?
Theo’s been quite productive this year in terms of assists…and he’s scoring in big games…i think he is improving bit by bit…if still inconsistent
seliing him at the age of 22 would be stupidity…if he comes good we will look like mugs
i like him…keep him i say
Walcott is young and will soon reach the top of his career. Tores can be taken on board but not in exchange of Walcott.
Jay
Swap today! Wenger will be able to bring the best out of Torres. Wacott has had 6 years to show his improvement, which he is, but is going very slow!
Good deal If we want challege titles. Torres is worldclass and he’ll find his best form in our team.
No way. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT. If the spaniard is good Theo is better. Guys, there’s a reason why wenger keeps on playing him, yet there are others in the team who cud play. Football mind or non, doal scoring or not, walcot ON HIS DAY, destabilizes defences. That creates room for Rvp & co. Just check on his assists. So Theo for El nina…. NO CREEPING WAY!!!
I prefare heart to brains.. Walcott hav d heart and ‘some’ brain & besides he’v got Arsenal ‘DNA’.. Keep ur Torres.. I migth consider Torres 4 carlos vella.
@ b johnson – DUDE WHAT DO U EVEN KNOW BOUT FOOTBALL??? UR CALLING THEO WALCOTT A DIVISION ONE PLAYER? DUDE DO US ALL A HUGE FAVOR N GO FCK URSELF! THEO IS 22 WITH LOADS OF PACE, AMAZING FINISHING AND WITH A LOT OF ROOM TO IMPROVE, WHEREAS ON THE OTHER HAND TORRES USED TO HAVE LOADS OF PACE, WITH KILLER FINISHING AND HE’S NEARING 30. I MEAN RU LIKE THE DUMBEST NOOB ON EARTH? THEO DEFINITELY PACKS MUCH MORE VALUE. AND DON’T YOU EVER PUT UR USELESS 2 PICE OPINION ON ANY OTHER SITE EVER AGAIN. AND GET URSELF ADMITTED IN A MENTAL INSTITUTION. I’D RATHER SEE ARSHAVIN SWAPPED FOR TORRES AFTER HIS LOAN SPELL IS DONE WIT ZENIT… I HATE DUMBA$$ ARSENAL FANS!!! WE’RE MUCH BETTER OFF WITHOUT YA’LL
MICHAEL ALLAN JORDAN – OR SHOULD I SAY FOOL! I SUPPOSE YOU THINK WALCOTT WAS MOTM AGAINST SPURS. YOU AND THEO KEEPING ON RUNNING INTO PLAYERS IT MAY GIVE YOU BOTH SOME SENSE.
@ BORIS GODUNOV – WHAT ARE YOU, YOU BLOODY RACIST IDIOT? U NEED TO GO ALONG WITH (B JOHNSON) YOU BOTH CAN GO FINGER EACH OTHER… BLOODY RETARDED FOOLS
When both are at their best…Torres is better.
Class is permanent and Wenger is the right man to bring it out in torres again. Arsenal is also a more nurturing environment where players arent under as much pressure.
Its a tough call but I would make the switch even if we had to pitch in more cash. With AOC, Miyachi, Wilshere and Goetse feeding a front line of RVP, Torres and Podolski, we’d be hard to contain.
Though inconsistent, Thundering Theo’s pace for now is fulfilling le prof & its better than tormented torres’ consistently vain travail at impressing zher czar. Keep your torrent lets keep our defence thawing theo.
eccept then bring hazard and Godze for the wings and M.vlla in devensive midfelder then play this information
……………….tores……………………
…………….V.perce………………….
Ger/Ox……………Godze/Hazard
..m.vlla/song…wilshare/arteta..
Santos-vermalin-Kos/per-sagn
……………….sczny…………………..
say no to this deal for the sake of not having torres in our first team. i don’t care what he’s done in the (now, distant) past. there is a chance that wenger could inspire him but at the moment he looks like a lost boy who will never score a goal, no less the 10-15 that it would take to get the press off his back.
and i don’t care if we’ve given theo 6 years. 6 years ago he was SIXTEEN. he might be a kid worth selling for the right price this summer but he’s still A KID, idiots.
I think thats a bad deal; My idea of an ideal swap should be Torres for Squillaci + Djourou + Almunia + Arshavin.
Now, thats a GOOD DEAL!
Thats a bad deal. An Ideal swap would be Torres for Almunia + Sqillaci + Djourou + Arshavin.
Now, thats a GOOD DEAL!
The truth is, torres can stil re-ignite that form we al know him for. Of course wit a befittin team i.e ars-gunal…just saying.
When the guys at the top look down, they only see s**t; When the guys at the bottom look up, they only see a**e. To the idiot that called Theo a**e, i bet ur right, coz u talk like a Chelsea fan, looking from below. When i look from the lofty 4th place at Torres, guess wat i see! I wd take a**e over s**t anytime.
Alcott is way better than he is given credit for. wouldn’t trade for Torres or even David villa or ibrahimovic etc. Torres is plain bad news.
