Frimpong: ‘I chose No. 26 because of Bendtner’
Emmanuel Frimpong has revealed why he wears the No. 26 shirt at Arsenal.
The Ghanaian youngster who is currently on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers did not have too many shirt numbers to choose from following his promotion to the first team from Arsenal’s reserves almost two years ago.
But after initially occupying the No. 35 void during his debut season in 2010, Frimpong keenly switched to No. 26 this year.
Of course, that number was previously worn by on-loan Gunner Nicklas Bendtner who later changed to No. 52 in 2009.

According to Frimpong, he chose Bendtner’s old number in order to prove a point to the Danish striker who had condemned it as a source of ‘bad luck’ following a streak of indifferent performances for the Gunners.
“I chose number 26 because Nicklas Bendtner had that before he got the 52.” Frimpong said
“He has said to me that it is a bad luck number so I wanted to prove to him that I can turn that number into one with goodluck.”
Frimpong is making steady progress under Mick McCarthy at Wolves – playing out a solid 67 minutes in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Saturday.
Bendtner on the other hand is still finding his feet at Sunderland where has witnessed a change of bosses from Steve Bruce to Martin O’Neill.
The 24-year-old has vowed to ‘never’ return to Arsenal. And after a host of terrible misses in front of goal in Sunderland’s last match against Chelsea, Arsene Wenger may not rue losing the Danish striker too much.
Frimps’s a top man. Truly Gooner who have a good future at Arsenal.
ooo eee, ooo aa aa
ting tang, walla walla frimpong!
what does DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENCH mean?
It means ‘annoying’. Not really, but it really is annoying. 😀
Its another word for NICE lol
true gooner until a big club comes calling
I love Frimpong and Wilshere alot because they are very passionate about ARSENAL, I don’t why but I feel they are this passionate because they are from our youth ranks and also diehard fans of this great club. Long live Frimpong, lond live Wilshere, long live ARSENAL players and long live ARSENAL.
What a legend Bendtner could wear and shirt he liked and he would still be a mouthy wanker who does not deserve a Arsenal shirt
With a bad luck No.26, Nick played many games and scored even a hatrick in champ league. I dont quite remember number of goals he scored on a good luck No.52, except bench and then loan! When u double 26, u get 52, hence if 26 is bad luck, then he doubled that bad luck with 52 till he went on loan! Why blame a number instead of admitting u’re not good enough? How many goals has he scored 4 sunderland so far? Against chelsea, he cost sunderland atleast a point! Sunderland may also reject him, come summer. Hat to all Gunners.
Your comment deserves 52 thumbs up! 😀
Say what you will about Bendtner (and I do agree he was wrong to mouth off) but he scored some important goals for us over the years. Much prefer him than anonymous Asian marketing project or the useless Moroccan! Bendtner had more talent, oomph and personality than both of those players! And pink boots, he also had pink boots.
LOL – HE WAS A LOAD OF REYES
If the asian is marketing, then that’s good coz we need to accumulate cash 4 the summer. Rem the next pre-season is in africa, thus some thousands of moroccans will fly to watch their arsenal! Again market! So, my dear gunner, nothing is useless under the sun! Imagine i dont have even £1 in my pocket, but come july, i would have secured a return ticket to Uganda aboard kenyan airways! Is that not important to arsenal? Palm Nut!
So basically, we’re a business foremost and a football team second? Gotcha.
Accumulate cash? I suppose we are a bit short considering we reinvested all the cash made from the sales of Nasri and Fab back into the team. Good point, sir. Well made.
Makes me remember the results of the confidence test where Bendtner was convinced that whenever he misses it isn’t down to him at all, I presume a lot of those misses were purely down to the number then. Good to know.
I agree with Oli. I thought Chamakh should have gone on loan and not Bendtner. However blaming your squad number typifies him. If only he had shown a bit (lot) more humility and patience, he could have been a very good back up for v Persie and he would have offered us a plan B. As it is, he seems to have burned his bridges with Arsenal and I can see him go the way of Bentley and Pennant. Shame really.
By the by, I think cocks are good…I would suck Frimpong off
Pls,
somebody should tell nicklas bendtner that,we the ARSENAL FANS WORLDWIDE have sworn never to watch him play for us again.

Comparison between Bendtner and Chamakh are a waste of time. Neither has shown that they are effective enough to make the grade at Arsenal. The only thing going for Chamakh is that he at least keeps his mouth shut and his trousers on in public. Bendtner seems to have got even worse in this respect at Sunderland and I doubt whether O’Neill will want him there long-term.
4 bentner there s no need of him showing at arsenal again.ifactwenger should cash him now.

frimpong surely has a big future with us ,but please Mr Wenger when he gets back PLAY HIM. I am a musician and know that it is only practice that makes perfect. Put him on the stage and let him go… and a few others too!1 Now true we are waiting for the best boys to get back even then it will take time….we heard that we would be in the market at least for one defender…it is 20th and nothing only platitudes. NOW IS THE TIME SIR our defense can be just terrrible DO SOMTHING This Sunday will surely expose us again. Perhaps it is time to salute the past and bring in a new energetic younger manager..ala Swansea to get going again…..Swansea players were running our guys were either jogging or walking. They were meeting the ball we were just waiting for the ball to come to us
etc,………..xz
