Gary Lineker lauds Arsenal man as ‘extremely smart’ and hands him his backing

BBC pundit Gary Linker has lauded the Gunners’ new boss ahead of his first experience as the head coach of one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
The Arsenal hierarchy was perhaps slow to react to the team’s terrible start to this campaign – which saw them fail to win in eight games at one point – as they took until November to finally make a decision over the future of Unai Emery.
After the exit of the Spaniard, the club then took a while to decide, before naming Mikel Arteta as the new head coach of the team on Friday.
This will obviously be Arteta’s first job as a manager, after spending the past three years at Manchester City as the assistant to Pep Guardiola.
Despite the debate over the Spaniard’s lack of experience, Gary Lineker has backed Arteta and lauded the 37-year-old as an ‘extremely smart’ man ahead of his big job at the Emirates stadium.
Wish Mikel Arteta all the very best. Hugely difficult and demanding first leadership role. Hope it works out for an extremely smart and likeable señor. https://t.co/TIsWfyUnSx
