Gazidis to hold Wenger meeting
|According to a report, Arsenal officials have ordered Arsene Wenger to pursue a shortlist of players which includes the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gonzalo Higuain, Toni Kroos and John Stones.
Wenger is known for being reluctant to spend over the years with Petr Cech and Mohamed Elneny being his only signings over the past two transfer windows.
The Sun claims that the Arsenal board will not consider offering the Frenchman a new contract unless he strengthens the squad with a marquee signing or two this summer.
The reports suggests that the club’s leaders are now urging Wenger to change his policy in the transfer market with over £150m in funds available.
Chief executive Ivan Gazdis and several members of the Arsenal hierarchy are set to hold a meeting with the Gunners’ boss whose contract will expire in 2017.
Arsenal are currently 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City with eight fixtures remaining as they target a first Premier League title triumph since 2004.
Wenger to spend big ?? Ohhh noooooo
Hope this is isn’t yet another false dawn. What is the point of having money for players if it doesn’t get spent. I will believe when I see the players wearing the honoured red and white.
This story, now all over the media to make up for the boring inter-lull, is in poor taste as Wenger has spent big when he needed to and has only ever acted in line with the desires of the club owners and its philosophy. Ozil, when he came, was 2nd highest fee for any player coming to the EPL; we forget? To make it look like it is his fault alone is distasteful, to say the least.
Wenger staying?I don’t know why arsenal are still believing in wenger he should go arsenal fans have suffered alot
I know right.. I’ve had to put up with three titles.. two of which were doubles.. six FA cups.. and unbeaten season.. the greatest player the Premier League have ever seen and European competition every season.. I don’t know how I put up with it!!
are you rip van winkle in disguise??
Absolute nonsense. All made up . As if Wenger wouldn’t want to buy world class players all along. The whole time during paying the stadium debt the board were saying the money is there to be spent, then over the past few years it was admitted there was no money and the best players had to be sold every year to pay off the debt.
The board hung Wenger out to dry every year so fans would think money would be spent, usually around season ticket renewal date as well.
I’m sure Wenger would have much rathered to keep Nasri than buy the likes of Arteta.
It must be approaching season ticket renewal time… Every year we get these stories around now…
I agree wt u absolutely . Wenger board and kroenke all need to be banned
Akim : all we need is worldclass players if the money is there why can’t he buy them
Arsenal players are the ones on the pitch. Not the manager. I wish that people would stop blaming the manager. If you try to get a player and someone else pay more money it is not the managers fault. Give him one more season.
Wenger’s contract is due to run out in 2017. I understand that many fans are angry but he must be treated with the respect he deserves. All we can hope for is he becomes less stubborn and accepts the money, if truly available, and buys some quality players. If he refuses to spend then that is different. I for one would like him to retire on a high and not hounded out by the hate mob.
RF left on ahigh. He knew winning the epl was getting tougher.Thats why he quit.So Moyes was left to carry the can.LVanother seaonG could be axed even if he were to win the FA cup.
As for Wenger,if the club were to let him decide when to leave,it would be when Arsenal are floundering.
Time is of the essence.
