Arsene Wenger has handed the Arsenal fans a boost into the new season by confirming that he will be retaining the services of one of his most useful first team stars.
The Arsenal manager witnessed his side begin the Premier League campaign by defeating Leicester City 4-3 in dramatic fashion on Friday night.
That victory came courtesy of the heroics of Olivier Giroud, who headed home the winning goal after being introduced as a substitute in the second-half.
The Frenchman has been linked with a departure for much of this summer, especially following the arrival of his countryman Alexandre Lacazette from Olympique Lyonnais.
Recent reports have even suggested that Giroud is being targeted by Everton, but Wenger has moved to confirm that the veteran striker will not be sold this summer after deciding to remain at the club.
“I love the man and the player because he is a fantastic guy, he is committed and loves the club and he does not want to leave and I am happy that he wants to stay,” Wenger said
“But at some stage I opened the door for him because I knew that I had many strikers, but he is really loved here and we love him and in the end he decided to stay.”
