Arsene Wenger has been boosted by the news that one of his key players is very much open to staying at the club.
Arsenal’s woeful form in both the Premier League and Champions League during the past two months has seen several players linked with a move elsewhere.
One of them is Mesut Ozil, who has delayed the decision to extend his contract which is set to expire is just over a year.
Reports from a few days ago even suggested that the Germany international was refusing to accept a new offer worth £200,000-a-week in wages.
However, Ozil has now moved to play down rumours that he is eager to leave the club this summer.
“I have always said I’m very happy at Arsenal. Everything fits here – the club, the fans and the city,” the 28-year-old said
“Arsene Wenger was also one of the main reasons why I joined Arsenal.
“However, I also know that in football everything moves very quickly and a lot differently to what you had planned.
“Therefore, it would be wrong to say that my future is dependent on the coach.”
