Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has admitted he was surprised to remain at the club beyond last summer’s transfer window.
The 19-year-old, who has been gifted several first team opportunities in cup competitions this season, has been in impressive form when called upon.
Iwobi received his biggest chance on Wednesday, starting in midfield ahead of the likes of Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell.
After featuring for over 70 minutes at Camp Nou, the Nigerian midfielder has revealed Arsene Wenger’s faith has caught him by surprise.
“I never thought I would get this far. Honestly, I thought I was going to go on loan at the start of the season.” Iwobi said
“But the manager has shown faith in me & I’m trying repay that faith and prove him right every time I play.”
The youngster also revealed that the Arsenal squad was certainly not deflated by the defeat at Barcelona which brought an end to their Champions League campaign.
“In the dressing room, we are a bit disappointed but not too down because we thought we did very well, we were unlucky in the end.” he added
