welbeck gunners

Arsene Wenger has admitted rumours that Danny Welbeck could make his first appearance in almost a year for the first team next weekend.

The 25-year-old is yet to play so far in this campaign after being sidelined by a knee problem which required him to undergo surgery back in August.

Welbeck returned to training with the first team at the end of last month before featuring for the club’s U-21 team last Friday.

According to Wenger, reports that the England international could be named in the 18-man Arsenal squad which faces Hull City in the FA Cup next Saturday are true.

“He is doing well, it is a bit early for him maybe but he is now back to full power in training.” the Gunners boss said

“It is a big possibility [he could be involved against Hull next week].”

With Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott being Arsenal’s only recognized center-forwards available, Welbeck has been tipped to be rushed back into action.

However, Wenger insists the striker has been handled with caution by the medical staff in his road to recovery.

“We gave him one or two days recovery after the under-21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit.” he added
